My friend lost a bet and has roped me into running the Cardiff half marathon..

I need to get motivated..

I'm running it to , the trick is to set of slowly , if you're not a jogger get some practice in , just do some 2 mile runs , give yourself a few days rest in between , start timing yourself on the practice runs and don't think you have to go faster because people are overtaking you, if all else fails walk it , just make sure you finish

Take a look at Couch to 5k. It's a good place to start. Also get involved in your local Park Run, which will be a good starting run with likeminded people.. it's Also a perfect place to meet other runners.

Best idea ever!!

In all seriousness though, thanks for the advice, guys. We ran a 3.1 mile last week in 39 mins - just over 12 mins a mile, but I had a karate tournament on Sunday and my back has been killing me since. I think I twisted it as when I went out today, I couldn't do more than a mile before pain set in! Which was really frustrating as I wasn't even breaking a sweat. Booooo
