Did you know....

Easter is named after an Anglo-Saxon fertility goddess - seems like it is another hijacked festival (like Yule).

I thought it was cos Christ was crucified on Good Friday and rose again on the Monday am iu wrong then

Many current Christian religious events have been moved to coincide with older pagan (and other faiths) dates, this was done a lot by the Romans to help them assimilate and subjugate groups in countries they conquered. They did the same with the locations used for worship too, meaning people fell easily into the habit of worshiping the new faith and became easier to rule over.

As with most things in life it's a complicated mix of things that got combined and changed over the years.

The name Easter does come from the old English Eostre. Which as a celebration of spring and new life. Hence the eggs and bunnies, this got mashed into the religious side of things a number of years ago - I guess to make the whole raising from the dead thing easier to swallow

A similar thing happen with Christmas, in this country we always used to have celebrations/parties in December because it was crap time of year - cold, dark and you couldn't grow anything or work in the fields. Then Christianity came along and rest is history lol

Well, Easter Bunny daddy and Easter Bunny mummy liked each other an awful lot, and one cold night down the burrow they snuggled together to keep warm, and 31 days later a stork delivered a baby bunny underneath the gooseberry bush in Mr McGregor's garden
