Just had a phonecall off (what sounded like) an Asian gentlememan claiming to be from Windows to tell me I have a contamination/interference in my network connection. My wifi is with BT. Anyone know wtf he is on about?? Sounded like a load of shit to me but now I'm flapping incase someone can get hold of my card details that I use online or whatever. I could barely understand a word he was saying and he was just rambling a load of shit really.

Anything I need to worry about or?? Surely if there was a problem with my network connection BT would contact me?? Meh... #technophobe

There are loads of scams at the moment people claiming to be from BT. Telling you your WiFi will be cut of because of non payment etc. Even claiming to be open reach now. Do not give any info x

Becareful wiv these type of calls even though they are ringing you, they can still charge your phone as they maybe ringing from another country.

Its the same advice as for "Banks" ringing you to ask you to re-secure your account etc.... ask them to put it in writing and you will reply... no-one from Microsoft will ever ring you to tell you you have a problem... how do I know this?

Simple... how did they get your number?

It's some computer randomly dialling numbers until they get a response, and then a guy will come on the line.

Watch out for the scam where they ring you on your landline and tell you they will cut you off for non-payment unless you pay straight away, to prove they are "real" they ask you to hang up and they will briefly cut you off... you pick the phone back up and its dead.... you think they are real as they have "cut you off"... actually its just that the person initiating the call (they rung you) is the one that has to close the circuit by hanging up, until they do that you cannot dial out. Just hang up on them, they will get bored and hang up eventually, and that will free up your line.
