This is a real strange one

But I need some advice

My sister put her dog in a kennel while on holiday

Her dog was injured and now needs to have his tail removed

The kennels saying they won't talk to any of us and they don't do incident reports

Everything they were told that happened they are now being told they made up and the workers didn't say it

What can they do ?

Thanks in advance

South Wales

RSPCA maybe? It might not be the first incident at that kennels.

101 - police for advice?

RSPCA would undoubtedly be my first port of call, also the kennel club

I spoke to the kennels this morning

Was polite didn't raise my voice and explained I was calling on behave of family

Lady took down my concerns and said the manager would ring back

And family could have a copy of incident report

When they went to collect it they were told

I was rude and shouted down the phone

Which my sister knew was a lie as id done a three way call when I phoned for her

Her husband was then told they don't have incident reports and when he questioned it pushed out of the door and told he was shouting

He asked another worker there if he was shouting and he said no

The manager then told him to leave and go through their insurance company

The dog is essentially property. If they won't address concerns verbally then write a letter outlining your concerns and what you are seeking to resolve. Perhaps indicate that failure to correspond will leave you no option but to pursue the matter legally. Send it recorded mail for proof of delivery.

It is strange, but in a world of law suits, saying nothing can be the best option.

I think they are panicking about what staff have already said

I have told them to email it as then they have a copy of what has been sent

Failing that a recorded delivery copy I think is the way forward

It's so unfair it was their first holiday

And they come back to that

Poor dog looks so down some people don't give a shit

over the rainbow

You are paying them to look after the dog they have a duty of care to do so.

Contact rspca.

Ask them for thier insurance provider.

Take pictures and get a full report from the vet.

If no joy from insurers go to citizens advice or see a solicitor .

Rspca may be able to point you in that direction.

And tell kennels you are seeking legal advice.

Thanks guys I will contact them

For her tomorrow

I told her to ask for cctv as they are saying the dog bite his own tail and pulled the fur out

But it looks like either another dog has done it

Or the end of his tail has been trapped in cafe door or something.

I will ring kennel club in the morning for her x

Absolutely disgusting, as an animal lover I am horrified by this thread, personally I would do everything that has been mentioned in the thread, I would also contact environmental health and have them check out the kennels, then perhaps a local councillor, I would name the kennels in every forum I could to prevent this happening to someone else's beloved pet, if it means that the kennels get shut down as a result of you going public that can only be a positive outcome,

I hope your sister's dog makes a speedy recovery and doesn't suffer any long term effects

Omg thats disgusting its hard enough walking away leaving a beloved pet in kennels as it is but discover some thing or some one had hurt it then not know how must be awful i bet your poor sister is so upset and angry its so cruel of them to not even have the decency to give any details had any treatment been given ? If not WHY ? Had they got a vet to check the dog ? How long has it been like that ? I should think those are just a few of the things going through your sisters head i hope you find help to get to the bottom of it all and the poor dog is on the mend x x

Evidence is always critical but I'd speak with a solicitor before doing anything else. If they deny it then its going to be tricky without a witness and the staff won't be in a position to dob their own boss in. See how you get on then bring a storm down on them by way of revenge at a later date. It won't help the dog but it will make the owners feel a lot better.

https://www.gov.uk/animal-boarding-establishment-licence

Sounds like they aren't compliant in a couple of areas in that summary let alone the fine print. Make a complaint to:-

1.Police (although i'm sure they will try and fob you off that it is a civil matter, press the animal welfare angle, cruelty by withholding vetinary treatment etc)

2. Council - possible breach of license terms

3. RSPCA

4. Kennel Club

5. Look for online sites that review - remember to keep it factual, only what you know to be true, i.e. dog collected injured and no explanation given. Post that on their Facebook page too if they have one.

And please PM me the kennel name. I use one Swansea side so I doubt its the same one but just in case. Word of mouth and social media are powerful.

The kennels isn't here in Wales

I have spoke to rspca and council today

My sister tried to speak to the kennels again

But the manager just went off on a rant and said see you in court

Now just see what happens

But the rspca did state they weren't the only ones to make a complaint against this particular kennel which doesn't sound good really

Thanks all X
