went to the swansea social lastnight, lots of people there all very busy chatting and socialising. i thing we got the wrong idea what a social meant, we thought it ment a way of meeting new friends and hopefully sorting a meet for the future, but this didnt seem to be the case, we only chatted to lyn when we arrived and she was lovely and very friendly other than that no one at all even smiled at us, no eye contact !! we even said hello to a few people and they looked striaght through us we no reply!! now we dont want to sound big headed but we aint that ugly or scary well we didnt think so lol, we are known off another site as being very forward and defo not shy but we didnt get a look in guys. i know you all love to see old mates and that but from a new couples point of view it wasnt very welcoming. this isnt a winge btw just wanted to say something xxxx

Exactly the same thing occured to me and a lady i was asked to escort to a social in swansea. Hosts were very friendly and helpfull as neither of us had been there before. But like you said, I think only one couple and two single guys (there must have been about 15 single guys there) spoke to us briefly. Both the lady and myself were very dissapointed in the attitude of the other guests. It was if we were intruding on their little domain.

It was our first swansea social and really enjoyed.we did try to go round and introduce ourselves as we still a bit shy.the people we chatted to were very friendly and made us feel welcome.we do apologise if we didn't say hi as I know we didn't speak to a lot, but I'm sure our paths will pass in future, hopefully !

We are new to the site too and attended our first social in cardiff at the beginning of march and met some great people. Initially they were people who we had chatted too in the wales chat room and as they had been known on the scene and been to many socials they kind of took us under their wing for an hour introducing us and then we had a great night going around and chatting to all unsundry lol

We were unable to attend the social in swansea due to work commitments but hope to soon

Really enjoyed the social last night thanks again for all your hard work Jon and Lyn, but can understand that it may be a bit daunting for singles or newbies (as hubby is).. perhaps part of the evening could be a speed dating sort of setup, just to exchange usernames, preferences etc for us shy ones

Yesterday was my first social after attending the last Cardiff one and I have to admit it is daunting. But as other people suggest, its far simpler to meet up with people you have already spoken to in chat and go from there. People will always socialise with their friends first, but I have yet to come across anyone who wilfully ignored folk. I personally thought it was a very good night and was introduced to a lot of great people.

sorry if i blanked you but no idea what you look like plus i am very shy in person and last night i was just there to catch up with old friends i had not seen in a while since coming back to the scene

Was my first social too last night and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. As I have a face pic up as my profile pic, lots of people seemed to recognise me first which made things easy.

Twoon I was hoping to meet you there but alas it never happened. Maybe next time xx

We are about 15 mins outa Pontypridd and we do go to Crawley in west sussex 2-3 times a year so get in touch !!

We couldent go last night due 2 wrk but the last social in cardiff was our first and every bugger knew us well me lol and that was a tad overwhelming but in a good way lol ,so i give socials a thumbs up

we were there last night, but dont think we saw you?

we would have said hello if you had spoken t us though, we never ignore anyone and i find it hard to believe anyone there last night would have intentionally too. maybe they didnt quite hear you over the music or something?

but, as with anything in life, you have to make a big effort at the start to become known, for some the socials are a great way to catch up with people you havnt seen for a while

I think that it is very hard at your first social to get to know everybody. I can remember my first one, many many yrs ago lol

I do try to introduce newbies to other people I know on the site, and I did so last night.

I think if you attended agian and maybe let others know by chat or message, then you will get introduced.

We are not a bad bunch in wales, as others who come from different parts of the country to the socials often say to me how welcome they feel.

Again I am sorry your evening was not as enjoyable as you expected, but please dont give up !

Although we tend to spend a lot of time chatting to old friends, we do chat with anyone who comes over to say hi. It can be daunting to cruise the room introducing yourself, and we dont do it at every social, but we do make an effort to get to know someone new at each social we go to.

If, as you say, everyone you approached blanked you, then I would say you were incredibly unlucky, but I cant deny that we have had the "cold shoulder" on occassion too.

Best advice would be, dont let it get you down, there are lots of fun people out there.

A social is only as good as you want it too be ,i make a point of chatting and meeting as many people as i can at these gatherings ,its not matter of sitting down and waiting for people too come on to you because others are in same boat being shy ,i met a lovely cple there for first time who ended up coming bvk here for a party so it shows these socials work for meeting new friends.Theres a lot of time and effort put into organising these meetings for people but you cant plz all the people all the time so if theres only one negative comment out of all the lovely people that was there then that was a grt nite

First of all a big thanks to Jon and Lyn for organising a great night, lots of hard work for you, but it was a fab night. We were a bit daunted at our first social, but then you realise that if you smile and say hi people will chat. What we found very useful was to chat to people on here here were going and maybe meet them for a drink before going along. Sorry if we didn't say hi to you, but will do next time. xx

thanks everyone for the replys and please dont think we are moaning buggers we know your all lovely people and maybe it was just us being lazy or the fact we had a meet the following night (sat) and psychologically not in the mood knowing we needed all energy for the following night lol we defo going to come to the next 1 and talk to everyone make a point of it honest.

Hi all

Sadly, due to work we missed the last social.

As has been said above, they are great events but it does help if you know a few people, at least by chatting in the chat rooms.

There is a huge mix of people who go.

Thanks to the organisers for all they work they put in, and see you all at the next one.

We have to agree, we went to a social a few months ago, and we ended up just chatting to ourselves. Sory, but it does seem very clicky in the Swansea social.

Wewill try again someday, but we can sympathise.

and it is his open and friendly manner that gets people talking.

It is understandable that some people may not be inclined to introduce them selfs at socials, but if you just sit in a corner and look around the room then your not getting it. The Cardiff social was a prime example for me, I introduced myself and got told in no uncertain terms to go way, and that was before they got to know me, not very social

I missed this social so cant comment on what happened, but I have attended them in the past and Jon and Lynn do try to talk to you when they see you arrive

Socials are for socialising, finding out who actually turns up and who'd you possibly like to meet in the future. A by product is getting some wonderful people to talk too, not to mention the booty parade

The people who arrange the socials put a lot of hard work sorting the event for everyone, its up to everyone to make the most of it, say "Hi!" next time you'll be surprised at the openness of people there. So thank you to everyone who I've meet at the socials and those who arrange the venue's
