"americans get the petrol / oil from the same source as us, yet pay a shit load less. why? because they are not taxed on fuel to the degree we are" True. But they also have to work 2 weeks longer per year (holiday allocations are much less over there) and there's no NHS that needs funding. Would OP give up half their holiday entitlement and take out private medical insurance if it resolved the problem?

"True. But they also have to work 2 weeks longer per year (holiday allocations are much less over there) and there's no NHS that needs funding. " They also get more "bank holidays" and as for the no nhs why do we pay contributions ? oh i remember its for the health service which i haven't used for over 15 years, and then theres the road tax we all pay that gets pumped into guess where thats right the nhs or to fund expenses for a duck pond Fuel tax which makes up the vast amount of the price of fuel is a "top up" for the mismanagement of the country does it go into the infrastructure of the country no. Petrol prices are hitting £6 a gallon where America are $3 add the exchange rate in and it even worse " Protests? what a few placard wavers? Interested to know it's not illegal! I'll park my car behind ya truck cj...so to speak! " And its everyones democratic right protest, strikes need a legal process to be legal and as strikes were made difficult during the 80's. With the threat of more action why do you think the government are reviewing the industrial action laws. As I said protests can bring the government down but its not a sustainable strategy, then if the protests do work unlike the student protests they will simply stick a stealth tax in the next budget So in sort show discontent for the government who will do sod all.

"THIS DEFINITELY DOES SEEM TO MAKE SENSE. LET'S TRY IT! We are hitting £129.9 a litre in some areas now and soon we will be faced with paying £1.50 per litre. So Philip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the 'don't buy petrol on a certain day campaign' that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to hurt ourselves by refusing to buy petrol. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it. and if you agree, join in... Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a litre is CHEAP, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS - not sellers, control the market place. With the price of petrol going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of petrol come down is if we hit someone in the pocket by not purchasing their petrol! And we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year (2011) DON'T purchase ANY fuel from the two biggest oil companies (which now are one) i.e. ESSO and BP. If they are not selling any petrol, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact we need to reach literally millions of Esso and BP petrol buyers all around the world. Well, it's really simple to do!! Please don't wimp out on me at this point... keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach the millions of fuel-buyers we need to make it work. I am sending this note to at least 30 people. If all of you send it to at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300)....and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000) ... and so on. By the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all YOU have to do is send this to 10 people (or as many as you can). That's all you have to do plus NOT buy motor fuel at ESSO/BP). So how long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 plus MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. AND PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES. It's easy to make this happen. Just forward this email, and buy your petrol at Shell,Asda,Tesco, Sainsburys, Morrisons, Jet etc. i.e. Boycott BP and Esso. Just imagine the panic at BP and Esso Headquarters when the fuel sales (and product sales from their forecourt shops) suddenly begin to fall. Send this to ten e-addresses (or as many as you can) and not buy anything at BP or Esso forecourts. A simple yet effective way to see what a difference People Power can make." Easier said than done. I work for very large European company with over 16,000 BP fuel cards. How am I supposed to boycott BP when that is the ONLY gargage I can use and ger fully reimbursed ? Nice idea, but needs to be fully thought through. BP and Esso make over £1m per hour 24hours per day just on fuel card users.

"ffs .....thought this was a swingers site, not a hoary old hippy protest site!! tree huggers unite lol cutting and pasting a protest letter from another thread is hardly going to solve any problems as far as im concerned!... the only way to hit the garages is by getting on your (push)bike or on the bus or train, carsharing or walking....being a little more eco friendly and watching your carbon footprint....not sending out chain letters " Sorry, thought it would be a change from the usual rubbish posted on the forums of late, however, I do like the idea of Bio Diesel, but am not sure if a common rail diesel will run on it effectively?

Not sure if the quote is word perfect, but I think you get the idea. Trying to raise awareness of an issue, and encouraging others to take some form of action, is, last time I looked, still allowed in the forums. Some of us do meet (lots lol), but also have keen and enquiring minds, a thirst for knowledge and a genuine passion for debate, something again that I believe the forums are here to encourage. Instead of posting negative comments on just about everything, perhaps you should instead just allow others the courtesy of expressing themselves, and either join in, or if you have little to say that is constructive or without malice, walk on by. Yours sincerely, Mart the tree hugger. (I would be a four hugger, but my arms aren't long enough!)
