"Even though your training and have targets, listen to your body! you don't want an injury before the race. Don't be worried about having a rest day. Just enjoy it though." thanks xx

"Go to the home page of the event. There's an evening seminar and training run on Weds 9th September. They do a lot of these for the Chester half and they're always good Get used to running in numbers and alongside others of similar ability " Nice one. Thanks again!

"I'll be bring up the rear, my normal tactic is in race motivation. Usually follow a nice rear until I get bored and it is too hard to concentrate on and wait for the next bit of motivation to run past me. Been doing a few runs prior but this time not too motivated with the training …….. maybe I should start finding a training partner. 2:30's would be a big plus at the rate I'm going. How many songs have you got loaded?" I presume you're talking about the half marathon Otherwise you'd be picked for the Wales squad Good luck to everyone taking part

"Gav will be doing this, despite not training for 6 weeks due to injury, just completed the Men's Health challenge today so hopefully he'll be OK next week despite needing another 6 weeks rest, he did 1.39 last time in Swansea half but doesn't expect to do under 2.10 in Cardiff " Sounds like he's taking it easy enough I know how out of condition you can be after missing 6 weeks Let's hope he doesn't aggravate his injury

"Thanks chaps!! Oooh maybe this post is a good way of finding the hot bods on here hehehe. Dock of the Bay - top tips ta. Just had to google tapering. I didn't know about that. I have put in a guesstimated time of 2 hours 15 mins but I'd love to do it in less than 2 hours. I ran 2 hours 22 mins a couple of years ago so anything under that would be cool. Did 10 miles in just under 2 hours at the weekend so I don't think under 13.5 miles is achievable for me in less than 2 really. Not enough time to train. I'm not going to ask as I'm sure everyone who has posted on here can run them in 1.45. Re the Vaseline - ha! Don't even go there. I have sports bra rub already but between my boobs. Sooooo not the look I want on fab Anyone else doing it? Xx " I'm there this year again, good look to all those running- the vasoline over the nipples is a good call the amount of people crossing the finish line with blood coming through their shirts from the nips was concerning!

" Sudocreme is a far better cream to apply. Be careful of the "type" of running top you wear. Get one with as close a weave as possible, almost silky, to reduce friction. Avoid karrimor etc. As they can chafe

"To build up your knee strength do cycling too. I'm on the cardiff half too. But I do alot of distance cycling and only run once a week " Running only once a week isn't enough. You're exercising a completely different muscle set with cycling. Although good for stamina. You need to get your legs used to the motoon and impact of running. Ideally you should be running 1.5 -2 times your target distance ie 30-40 km for a half marathon

A half marathon isn't that far is you're reasonably fit and if you just want to complete it and not aim for a particular time. You couldn't knock out a marathon without some serious training, but a half is ok. Having fun and enjoying the day is the main thing I reckon xx

"Good luck everyone too! I have 2 hours 50 mins of choooooons loaded. There's hanging around at the start line. I think I'll finish between 210 - 230. I really under 2 hr 22 which was my time last time. Well done on 1'39 gav! Doc of the bay - you have been a little star with your training tips. Thanks. Looking forward to the carb loading x" If that is Chocolate then I don't mind having the extra 28mins you have …. nice day to have a picnic along the course :p

"Running is actually enjoyable, believe it or not And it can be a very sociable past time too, just go and see how many go to a park run on a Saturday morning. There's a huge camaraderie about it all. I'm fit, healthy, mentally alert after a run, at peace when I am running " I think that you have to admit that long term it puts pressure on your heart and joints and in old age you would suffer for you vice

It strengthens your muscles, and bones and joints, and keeps my ticker in good shape too You should see the number of older runners out and about, and I know one 75 year old who's faster than me and a standing heart rate of 52 bpm
