Its NOT an average speed camera, just a normal GATSO one.

I got caught by the bugger a couple of months ago £85 speed awareness couse for being 7 mph over the limit at 8.30 on a sunday morning

Theres a free Navigation app called "Waze" for iphone/Android thats updated by its users. Cams accidents, hazards and whatever are all updated as they happen. ( even mobile cams) Absolutely brilliant and well worth a look.

Money making fu**ers !!!! Nothing but a money making scheme and I deplore their use in such circumstances.

Outside schools etc fine but to have them on motorway bridges and alike is just cashing in for local government.

There are far more dangerous A roads whith multiple fatalities each year up and down the country that could do with speed reduction measures but the volume of traffic is on the motorways....and traffic volume means more motorists to cash in on.

My opinion and I'm entitled to it.

Is it an average speed? I know they have them on fabian way for uni roadworks 40mph but ones at jun 41 look like average speed but there is only one of them average speed are normally in three's. There are no lines either so was not really sure if was new trevelo type.

I drive for a living used to hate them now they are part of daily life. The m4 slip roads at port Talbot is the worst designing ever. Money making by painting them bright yellow lol

I have installed average speed cameras, but not sure if this one is working. How they work is they have 2 sets of flood lights fitted to the timed cameras. So slow down between these cameras. But heres the thing, if you enter on say lane 1, but then change to lane 2 half way through, they cannot time you!!!!

The fixed one on Swansea Rd does it catch you going uphill or downhill

You know when you go up the hill then theres mini roundabout theres sometimes a speed van there so he gets you on way up but at very top of hill thetes fixed bright yellow camera on opposite side which catches both sides of road. This is 30mph zone x

I knew that was the case when they were first introduced but didn't realise it was still the case! What happens in the case of multiple cameras? Are they all linked and do you have to keep lane hopping?

The whole system of cameras is just seemingly a way of controlling us and making money from us. I understand that some ARE needed, where safety is an issue, but most are a cynical bloody con. And as for those bloody sneaky mobile cameras in vans and on bikes, they really stink.

Time to buy a detector I think. Not that I speed, just to ensure that on the odd occasion where I'm concentrating on he road, and on driving safely, that I'll be aware if I'm a couple of mph over what I should be doing. Apparently the Snooper units are pretty good so I've heard...anyone got one, and if so do they work well?

Where do you think you got caught too? Im sure youd see the fixed camera as theres lines on road and everything.

The a465 confuses me as everyone speeds and dont get a ticket

Really don't see the problem! The cameras are painted bright yellow, if your eyesight is that bad and you don't see them, you shouldn't be driving anyway. Also, how can it be a money making scheme? If you stick to the speed limits, you can't be charged.

I know the camera in question in merthyr tydfil and the camera is indeed hidden by somebodys lack of gardening, he wasnt complaining he just showed his worry.

Also i understand speed cameras have there use and i believe that is to keep everyone in safe. In some areas they warn you of cameras on signs with how far they are and this is more effective usually as c'mon everyone just slows down for cameras then back up again. Surely safety is key??

I wasn't having a go atvyou in particular, just a general observation, many people use the excuse of not seeing the camera. If you are sticking to the limit, seeing the camera or not is irrelevant, it won't go off. Maybe it is time to actually hide the cameras! That would get rid of the problem ofvthe idiots who brake heavily when they see them and speed up afterwards.

They are average speed cameras, but i think they put jun41 ones on early they seem to have removed them, and the other posts have been added across 50mph zone, so only a matter of time before cameras are re-added and turned on. Uni on fabian way down to 30mph while road works on.

I did the speeding course a while back to avoid the points and keep my insurance premiums down. The instructor fella was asked this very question and told us it was all to do with the motorway junctions on that stretch. Apparently the entrance ramps onto the carriageway are quite sharp due to it being on a long elevated viaduct over the town and barrelling on at 70 is a bit dangerous. No idea if it is true but it's a plausible theory.

That's quite correct, they are taking away the fixed camera and replacing it with these new ones, and you can bet they will be set at 50 mph with NO leeway at all.

If you think about it all the bottlenecks on theM4 occur around the cities where there are only two lanes, Margam through to Swansea,Newport through the brynglass tunnels and it was just north of Cardiff.

Slow down peeps the speed Nazis will have you
