chams not charms

why do so many people shorten chameleons to charms......ffs its chams there is no R C.H.A.M.E.L.E.O.N.S....SEE NO R.

And also its pronounced CAMS. Silent H. you wouldn't look in a pet shop and say " oh look a 'cha-me-leon'.
