Not the worst in the world, but the text speak certainly doesn't fit a 43 year old. Surely it's not hard to write 'I've' correctly?

In my opinion, yes it does. A lazy profile signifes a lazy shag to me. Also I like to meet those of a similar intellectual level and txt spk implies that you are significantly sub par.

kind of see where your coming from ,but when it comes to a message does it matter as much, I'm not great at typing so sometimes its easier.

Good to see you have taken the advice on board, form paragraphs to make the profile more readable there is no need to do one sentence at a time.

So so true, most messages get dead ended on here! Without a no thank you, it's kind of funny though.

The ones who love all the correct grammar are prob the worlds worst culprits, of choosing to ignore then that's their choice. ( it's no science though)

It's just a game ask yourself how well your playing sometime.

There's a whole world of difference between text speak and not knowing the difference between your and you're , or to, two and too and, in my opinion, does show a certain level of intellect

As for the thinly veiled dig at Ava, she has always responded to messages I have sent her even though she has no intention of meeting

Evolution of language ? Children growing up and being so used to using so called text speak they can't remember how the proper word is spelt and end up using text speak in school work and essays because it's a habit , I know because I've seen it , how will they fair when they leave school ? You call it evolution I call it a step back to the dark ages !!

well no matter what you think about how ppl communicate it is evolving nothing you or anyone else can do about it, i use text speak myself but on profiles where its states dont use text speak i dont, as for casper referring to my dig at ava??? no dig just generalising it would be a really sad state of affairs if 50%of my mail was written to her and hadnt recieved a reply pmsl im guessing if she hasnt met u yet she is hardly going to meet u because u think u stood up for her in forums lol

I love this. It's the same as on the News discussion sites. There is some major issue. Someone makes a valid observation on it and they get a handful of comments. Someone gets their grammar a bit wrong and hundreds of comments and opinions appear from the grammar police.

I suppose I am guilty a bit too, so I shouldn't moan. and it does keep proper use of grammar in the spotlight

Anyway adding my personal opinon(same as hubbys!)Textspeak when TEXTING is fine.On a profile:turn off for us.Some only have 1 or 2 sentences and can't spare the time for a few more keystrokes?We got no sparetime for them

Textspeak in messages:turn off for us.A message is the '2nd impression' since we always look at the senders profile before opening.We are looking for likeminded people and as all our first messages are in full sentences and include a greeting! we doubt that textspeakers are for us.We like fabsters, who like us, make an effort

I'm sure nobody is suggesting that someone using text speak lacks intelligence but it can give the wrong 1st impression to some people , I accept not all people feel that way though.

What I was trying to point out in my first reply was that text speak and poor grammar is creeping into everyday life because people use it as habit and forget how things should be written and this can't be a good thing or " evolution of language".

Imagine you are an employe advertising a job that involves corresponding with the public through email , letters etc .you have 2 C.V's in front of you , 1 written using poor grammar and text speak , the other is well written in proper English .

Who are you giving the job to ?
