cancelling parties

Not me cos i do go to quite a few but have been asked by friends why do ppl keep advertising parties, then cancel a few days before. We know this can happen due to unforseen circumstances but if its a regular thing cant something be done. Whats everyone's opionions on this, is it another way of timewasting lol
