Busted quite a few recently - mostly using badly cropped web pics as their own.

Why do they bother?

Do they think nobody knows how to reverse search a pic?

There is a free program called Tineye you could use.

It takes the image and searches Google images for a match.

Just google Tineye for the download link.

Just a thought here what if some one steals your image off here and loads it on other sites does that mean its fake then ?

"So you just upload the pic and it tells you if it's fake?? "

You paste the pic into the box on Tineye and it tells you if its been posted on another website , how many sites and what they are , the first 1 I did was on a " single fem " profile and just looked a little too professional , I pasted it in Tineye and it came back with over 6000 matches on every type of site from porn to sexual health websites , that generally means its been lifted from the Internet and used on a fake profile , obviously there will b some pics that are from genuine profiles but will return some results from other websites but if its in the thousands it's a safe bet its a fake

They probably have their privacy settings to not show that they've looked at your profile , you can do this in privacy , show me / hide me , some couples and fems do this because it means they can browse profiles without getting lots of mail back especially off single guys

Sounds to me like Tineye maybe getting information from your computer without you knowing it. It is almost impossible to scan an image and then search the world wide web for it. The results they give you are no doubt bogus and they are clearly telling you what you want to hear. Try searching for that image on one of the sites it says the image is on !

I've found two pictures of mine on google and I can honestly say I haven't given the two sites permission to use them. Do you think I could get royalties off them? Bit alarming I guess the answer is not to put anything in public on your profiles.

Just wondering what you base this on ? I've done quite a few searches that return no results , if tineye is " telling us what we want to hear " wouldn't every search return 1000's of results ? You simply paste the image into a space on the website so how do they take info from my PC , and as for impossible to scan the web for images don't google offer something similar ?

I'm no expert but it seems pretty legitimate to me

Tineye does NOT access your PC. It takes the URL (of the suspect pic) that you paste into the search box, looks at that pic, then scurries off to see if it can find a match.

In fact, if you try to use Tineye on a pic that is on your computer but not online, it can't see it. That was the first thing I tested it for.

Image matching has come a long way recently. Tineye uses an extremely complicated logarithm, looking at colours, shades, distribution and luminosity of individual pixels to try to find a match.

Absolute bollocks.

If you use Chrome or Firefox, you can also download an add-on for Tineye, so you can simply right click on the image and choose the option from the context menu.

A more accurate add-on is Google Reverse Image Search...it gives many more results, and is also available as an extension for Firefox and Chrome.

We regularly report fakes. If presented with proof Admin usually move quickly to remove the pics, and often if there is more than one stolen pic the profile is suspended.

The more people that spot and report fakes (remember to include at least one link to the original stolen web-image that you find), the more we can rid this site of time-wasters and fakes.

Don't forget pics can be used on multiple sites by people, and who knows, they may have had their pics nicked.

Report anyway as Admin can do some checking and make a decision on it

As stated earlier - Tineye CAN'T check pics from your PC - Only pics ON THE WEB.

That means that Google hasn't indexed your pics.

Depending on the site security that the pics are on, Google may not have permission for their 'spiders' to index them.

Tineye can't look at pics on sites that need registration , most sites like like fab etc require you to register to view profiles and pics , its the same for image search sites which is why Tineye can't scan site such as fab , which is a good thing obviously

That's a better explanation than ours lol.

Much easier to understand for the non techheads amongst us.

Google and Tineye should be used as an aid to make an informed decision.

They quite easily show up the stolen pics of porn stars and the like and yes people can have pics stolen and used, but they are very helpful tools in the fight to stamp out fab fakes.

A fake account should be closed down irrespective how many pictures they have..one is one too many...why should fakes get away with it if they 'only' have one stolen picture?
