So to all you bidding photographers out there. I have recently started getting back into it after a 12 year break.

My question for you all is what is your current setup as currently I have the three base lenses I want

Lenses

Canon ef 50mm

Canon kit lens ef-s 18 to 55mm

Canon ef 80 to 200mm

Body

Canon eos 700d

So what do you use and how are you finding your camera so far. As I am enjoying taking scenery pics so far and need to find someone that would be willing to model for me so that I can get practice in with people

That sounds a good kit to start with. Have a play and you’ll get an idea of what else you might need to improve the pictures that you like.

The big difference from 12 years ago is how good the performance is in low light. There isn’t the need for wide apertures as you can just raise the iso instead. Helps to keep the cost of lenses down.

Yeah I have noticed that a lot recently and secondhand price of lenses these days is a bargain compared to what they used to be when I was using slr

Dslr makes such a difference not too worried about wasting the film now

Yes and when something works (or doesn’t) you can easily check the exposure details to understand why.

I’ve photographed some couples and needed some flash as it’s hard to control light in a hotel room (without the kit) and you’ve no chance of asking them to stop and re-position!

I was looking at A7Riii at one point but it's really dated now compared with the canon

It is still a good camera though for what I seen of it even if it is 7 years old now

I have to agree why I have gravitated to the ef lenses over the ef-s as they seem to be a lot better

Yeah ef-s are cheaper more affordable, bit like the difference between Gibson and Epiphone when it comes to guitars

Completely agree with the glass over body comment. And then learn how to use it properly.

Piscean, lots of self portraits on your feed. Is that using a tripod or help from a friend?

It’s all going mirrorless now, I got one last year and it’s a game changer. The great news for dslr owners is the cost of secondhand professional equipment has dropped through the floor.

I have noticed that and I may look into a mirrorless body at a future date

Only trouble is got to then buy all the lenses again lol

Adaptors work well if you do move to mirrorless and if I was starting again then I’d go that route but I’ve got a DSLR body that I’m familiar with so I can’t see a reason to change (albeit I’ve got a small mirror less for travel etc).

As with most things it’s not what you’ve got but how well you use it that makes the difference.

If only that was true about cameras. The new canon R5 mark 2, for instants, has so many features unheard of just ten years ago. If you’re into sports or wildlife photography these new cameras are just a world away from even the really best dslrs now. Plus their so much lighter with big lenses attached

I would say that certainly is true about cameras. A camera is just a box. It can't do anything by itself. It is basically a computer. The Canon R5 Mk2 is £4449.Not even with a lens included. A Panasonic S5 Mk2 plus three lenses (20-60, 35 and 85) is just £1800. That beats the Canon. Images side by side, you couldn't guess which was from what. Don't be fooled by the marketing.

All apart from a couple of pics taking by friend like the fridge one are me holding it but some are tripod.

It’s true. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got a good camera and it makes some things easier to do and I’m not immune from the urge to upgrade. But thinking about what I was doing and making the effort has more impact.

@Mrs GND you’ve got some great photos. Are you the photographer or model or both? I’ve always found it hard to get photos of myself that I’m happy with.

Thanks, my husband is the photographer/videographer and we run a media company together doing all sorts of stuff.

DSLRs are great. Film cameras are great! All cameras are great! They are there to be enjoyed in whatever you take.

I’ve been a Pentax shooter for many years (a smaller, but passionate gang to belong too).

I’m going to go mirrorless, though. Probably going to get a Fuji one when the money allows. I just want smaller, lighter kit.

Been using a canon 100d for the past 10+ years with various lenses. Just bought a new canon r7 with a lens. An adapter to use my old lenses costs £120. Be out soon with it

I have, in last six months bought a Fuji mirrorless.

It's bloody heavy.

Cracking camera but takes a lot of re-learning after a DSLR.

I'm finding it a difficult transition from my old Fuji 3200.

I used to have a fujica slr film camera back in the 80s …..those were the days. Manual focus and film wind. Apart from the screw Mount it was a great bit of kit

Sorry shows my ignorance, it's not a Fuji. It's a Sony Alpha 7r mk5.
