Barnsley

I’m off to Wrexham this weekend and I’m looking for recommendations on where’s good for a drink? Is it a good night out and is there a route people tend to follow?

Following on from this is there any specific places where we’d meet likeminded folk?

TIA

Heading to alchemy. Depends on what you're into really.

The d*unk monk, the magic dragon then the oak is our usual route. More indie, craft beers, good jukebox.

Effies is good for cocktails, fat boar or caniboar for food (abit pricey) bank is gorgeous for tapas.

Later on the parish is usually more indie music and is so busy. Can feel old in there! If you find yourself in the karaoke bar it's either been a really good. Or really bad night!!

If you like live music, try Saith seren or for heavy rock its club XS. Avoid the Midland which is full of under age drinkers and druggies. Rock suite is where slightly older people head later on. But if all you want is a good piss up, try welsh fusiliers and long pull.

Don't forget town has 2 iconic pubs..

Once it was the horse and jockey. That's the thatched roof pub on the main shopping drag...

But now we've also got the 'world reknowned' Turf alongside the football stadium...though its off season there may be some North Americans in there..

"It's less than a mile from the centre of town" no more than a 10 min walk..

Re food also got a Hickoryz but you'd need a taxi kind of in leafy suburb...

Depending on where you're staying and how long you're over for a nice afternoon drink may be partaken in the Pant yr Orchain..again probably a taxi job..

Depending upon one's ale preference..if you're partial to lager then you've got to try a Wrexham Lager...the Uk's old4st lager..

Being from Barnsley I'm sure you'll see similarities with Wxm..

Both being old industrial towns..

Re route of pubs..probably depends upon where you're staying..

Your profile title suggests a play on words in respect of an American TV show that for particular reasons has become known in Wrexham..if correct then the Turf is definatly worthy of a visit..

If hoteling you're either in the

Wynstay

Bang in centre of town so staggering or crawling distance depending upon how good a night you've had..

Premier

Almost opposite football ground so handy for Turf

Ramada

A bit beyond football ground..probably 20 min walk into town but probably taxi back..

If further afield you're probably on chester side of wxm..Beeches..Rossett Hall or Grosvenor Pulford ( literally on border but wrong side)..getting into town no problem as regular buses but definatly taxi back..

Enjoy..

Ps

Local expression is 'alright (pronounce alreet) laaa'

As in lad but silent d and elongated a...

Should be able to pull as local women don't get much nookie as everyone know the guys are shagging sheep.
