"Hate to say this, but...... I've seen Wales play rugby in the flesh 81 times. The day as a whole is great, but the atmosphere in the ground is a pale shadow of what it was 20-30 years ago or more. Back then you had to get in the ground 45 mins before to get a space on the terrace. The singing of choral hymns was unique and I saw it reduce people to tears (especially visiting fans, including memorably, a lovely English lady from Leicester). The hairs on yer balls would stand up! Now there's no singing bar the odd chorus of BoH and Hymns and Arias (how ironic) and with all the pumped out music it's no different to any other ground. The crowd cheers at kick off and sits there in silence for 95% of the game-there's no support. I much prefer rugby to football, but much as I hate to say it, the atmosphere for FA cup Finals was way better than Wales games, with the exception of the All Blacks game in 2004 and Grand Slam game of 2005. I was at the Grand Slam game last year - the atmosphere was rubbish until the last couple of minutes. Half the crowd haven't got a clue about the rules these days and are more interested in going out for beers and getting on the big screen. Real fans (the guys who play, cosch kids or support teams week in week out) increasingly don't go, partly because of cost. It's still a good day to be in Cardiff usually, though there can be more tension in the air at England games - have seen some isolated, but nasty stuff. I actually think the possibility of denying England the GS will mean it will be pretty loud and frenzied in the ground, but it's usually like a library these days. I know this sounds grumpy, but I've had so many visitors to the stadium how surprised how bad the atmosphere was. I first went aged 8 in 1978 and I just genuinely feel sad we've lost that unique thing we were renowned for. Having had my rant, please be assured I'll be cheering Wales like a maniac come Saturday " have to agree with you, i go to every home match and one away game every year (paris this year) and the crowd do not understand the game and its nuances. Its more of a corporate day now tickets at £75 each makes it a rediculously expensive day out. Bring back the atmosphere of old !!!!

" Thanks mun - I felt like a right grumpy git posting that, but I'm adamant it's the case. The guys I know who really support the game, watching their village side each week etc, don't go anymore- too expensive and too full of people on a corporate day out or clueless people in pink cowboy hats screeching "GIVE IT TO SHANE" regardless of the situation in the game. Sad really.
