Where the flamboyance of flamingos live

Hi Ladies

I’m at that certain age, you know … that age when your fertility is decreasing, your hot flushes are more frequent and you’re a moody bitch.

The one thing I wasn’t expecting was the sheer hunger and I mean I just want to stuff my face! Anyone else peri menopausal experiencing the same. What has helped you get through it ?

I am peri menopausal and my appetite can be disgusting especially at certain times of the month and just for total crap.I train every day in the gym to counteract the days I eat like a pig. I try and burn at least 600 calories a day. Keeps me sanish aswell.

I take something called Black Cohosh to try and counteract some of the physical symptoms and Prozac for the psychotic side of it all.

I think it's called mental pause, not menopause. It makes me evil, hungry (for food/ice cream), drier than the fuking sahara, loss of libido, shall I go on? Also makes me really emotional and cry at the most stupid things.

Where is the ME I was before

I went through a surgical menopause at 30 but 30 years later I still get all the symptoms. None of the hormone therapy helps so I just manage it the best I can. You've described it perfectly Mama X

Nope I'm the same, I have to be in the presence of a sexy person to even feel interested. Outside of that I can't even think about sex nowadays X

Hi ladies,

Sorry to jump in, and totally not trying to just be a man and mansplain.

If you have “insatiable hunger” - I.e. hunger so intense that you cannot stop eating: it may be worth a trip to your doctor.

1) insatiable hunger can be a symptom of diabetes - which, for women of a certain age when hormones start to misbehave should *possibly be a consideration*. Other symptoms include being extremely thirsty, tired or weeing a lot.

2) HRT - I know, I know. I have a penis and I’m “young”. What do I know? Well, IRL, my work overlaps with this stuff and you know what: HRT can be super awesome for relieving symptoms. There are loads of weird and wonderful ways that your hormones interact with each other, and there are so many ways that you’d body can be confusing.

The saying “try one and you tried them all” does not apply to HRT. Trying one type of HRT may result in symptoms worsening etc BUT if you fall in the rare category where that is the case: it is worth persisting. Either with your regular GP, or seeing another GP in your surgery (or a specialist nurse, if there are any offering HRT consultations)

Anyway, apologies for stepping in, I don’t want to bore you all with this stuff, but just in case this helps ONE person, I’ll be happy

Thankfully this is spoken about more the effects of the menopause. Women don't know enough about it so how can men, how can they understand and support us through this mayhem.

It's great to have this forum to discuss things and share advice, including the advice above. I don't think we give enough credit to the power of hormones. While I was on the pill for many yrs it subsided my sex drive, since stopping it's returned. I don't think men realise what we go through just for contraceptives. Pumping hormones into our bodies. I have been shocked about the blasé attitude on this site of some men about the morning after pill. No understanding that the impact of the hormones on our bodies and it can cause problems for months.

There are so many varying symptoms of the menopause that affect do many. More open talking is needed.

While I'm having a grumble on here, I feel that the menopause is why a lot of attached men are on fab. Not understanding their partner's change in feelings, who they are and often their interest in sex.

It's useful to have a sensible contribution whether you're male or female. Thank you X

This for me too... even desire seems to have disappeared. Unless it's Stormzy, and then I could happily devour him lol... (those who know me personally, know where I'm coming from)

This thread is everything. Thank you so much Flamingo!

I'm under investigations for perimenopause and I turn 42 in a couple of weeks. The bleeding in between periods is constant and really affects our sex life. I used to get a woody bean at the slightest breeze it seemed and now? Now I've gotta talk myself into sexy fun. How many of us have watched porn to try and grease the wheels, so to speak? My guy is understanding to a point but I know he feels hurt by my lack of interest. I'm here on Fab to keep things sexy for myself (partner's not on here but I have his support). These days I'm feeling more drawn to women. Perhaps my subconscious craves that commiseration

Newport

I'm peri, and the struggles are real.

Went shopping this morning and had a hot flush in the middle of Iceland. How I didn't just jump in one of the freezers for a lie down I don't know.

Those that know me regularly see me fanning my face as I burn to nuclear levels (or so I feel).

Sexually,it's very difficult to get in the mood lately, and I have to have the build up to get to where I could do it. Men have to take their time with me and be understanding.

My Ice Castle! South Wales

I started HRT several months ago. I'm lucky it has started working. Unfortunately it's not a miracle cure and it more dulls the issues that eradicates them.

Having women around me that I can talk to is the best part. Knowing it's not just me going bloody cuckoo or feeling like crap.

I can cope with the mood swings now. The itchy skin has got easier. It's the bloody aches, pains and tiredness that gets me the most

Ive got the symptoms for a while but the tests for peri menopausal were negative. Im always hot and have the flushes, my fibromyalgia pain is worse and yes the mood swings are there but the doctor has put it all down to grief and stress.

Dont know whether to ask for the tests to be redone with a lady doctor or just push through
