Mobile app “Who’s nearby”

Every now and then I look on the mobile app to see who is close by and matches my preferences and is on-line. There’s usually someone on-line so I look at their profile to see if there’s a match potential, and then…

Well that’s the problem. What next? Perhaps a “Wink” might be appropriate? My thought process is that they’re on-line so they’re obviously in a “Fab” frame of mind at that point (as am I) and “Winks” are supposed to ab a non-intrusive way of saying “Hi” (a bit like a wave to someone across the road). But to date I’ve never had a response to the few “Winks” I’ve sent. I know that is par for the course, but…

So what would you do? A message out of the blue saying “Hi, we’re near each other”? And if this is not a scenario where a “Wink” is appropriate, what is the point of them?

I don’t think there’s a right or wrong way to approach it. Some people hate winks. I personally think it’s an easy way to let someone know you’re interested.

Take the leap and go for a message. If you don’t get a reply, take it as a polite “no” and move on.

Near Abercynon

Winks are fine but don't expect too much because there tend to be quite a few received at a time.

Well written profiles and messages probably work best.

The deal breaker for us is the delivery of interest.

A "hi saw you on who's near wanna meet up?" is unlikely to get a response, unless we're bonker-ly horny and they fit the basics of uur needs. However, and essay can be quite boring even if one may fit our needs..

As mentioned above, there's no right way of getting noticed, we're thinking it's sheer luck and good timing.

Oddly enough, when we're unavailable for meets, plenty of talent around and vice versa.. now that's absolutely frustrating to say the least..

I like a wink but disagree that if you're log in your in a frame kind of mind. I'm usually checking out the updates, forums & catching up with those friends not on my phone X

GONE/TIMEOUT (No DMs please)

A wink is a good way to show interest. I very occasionally message people who wink if we're on the same wavelength.

"I am nearby" is rarely a main reason for a woman to meet someone.

It would probably make me uneasy if anything.

And ref the being in a "fab" mood if online, I can assure you people are very often in a mundane mood, or a lazy browsing mood while waiting for the washing machine to finish kind of mood...

My phone gps lags so those who are within touching distance are usually miles away

I never ever look at winks. They don’t even cross my mind!

Never even check my winks - but as others have said they do.

I don’t see the harm in sending a wink and message as it will catch a broader audience.

For me, a message to say I’m near by does nothing, my neighbour messages to say he’s home- doesn’t mean I jump on his dick. Any message sent needs to be thought about and take into account what is on the profile. Yes add in you are near but don’t make it the whole message

I like checking “Who’s Near”, but I think you are being a bit optomistic regarding people’s state of mind if they appear there.

I think it’s much more likely they are just idly browsing, chatting with friends, bored at work etc. Many are just logged in all the time anyway.

The percentage of people appearing on “What’s On” and looking for a meet/hoping for an unsolicited message or wink from someone they don’t know is probably low. If they were, I’d expect to see it reflected in their status, or for there to be a meet posted.

I definitely wouldn’t expect a reply if I winked or messaged someone just because they were near and they seemed to be what they were after.

When I am online it is only to keep in touch with friends, read the stories and forums; sometimes to amuse myself with the status updates. I am never on here in a "meet" frame of mind, that is kept for meeting people at organised group socials. I do prefer winks to messages as I will check out the profile and wink back if they match what I am looking for (when back meeting) to organise meeting them at a group social only.

Unfortunately a lot of people on here, not just single men, see a woman locally online and immediately think she is up for a quick shag.
