I intend signing up this year too.

There’s a Welsh Centre just off Tottenham Court Road and they do classes, that’s where I will be.

Left Llanelli 13yrs ago with extremely basic Welsh, moved to London and now plan on learning it in England..lol

Question for a fluent Welsh speaker on this thread here; how long would you say it will take to be able to speak decent enough, possibly pretty basic, conversational Welsh if you have one or two lessons per week..??

A year..??

18 months..??

Two years or more..??

How long is a piece of string? It will depend on your input, how much you practise, opportunities to use it. Some will pick it up quickly, some take longer. 2 to 3 years average to hold a conversation (basic conversation, not debating the secrets of the universe!)

I had some form of Welsh lessons from aged 4, right the way through until I was 14, and unfortunately I still cant string a sentence together.

Its a very hard language to learn, some take to it easily, but others dont.

I found French and Spanish much easier, so its not like I find other languages impossible, and I really wanted to learn Welsh, I just couldnt.

West Wales and Cardiff

To those thinking of trying - learning Welsh has been the best, most rewarding thing that’s happened to me in years.

I love speaking the language, but I can also do my job better because of it.

I grew up in a part of Wales that had few Welsh speakers, but I feel it’s a fundamental part of me now.

Give it a go - you might find it similarily rewarding and revelatory .
