After talking about a Cardiff club making a dream reality, we are potentially looking at locations for a Cardiff based club.

Location is key for most businesses but we wanted to know fellow swingers input on this.

That's because the club, or it's owners, did not make any effort to turn the venue into a swingers club. It just looked and felt like a seedy massage parlour, which is exactly what it had been before. Plus they were allowing groups of lads in, with them still thinking it was a massage parlour.

Some things I want to know is would fellow swingers be up for a done out warehouse on a quiet industrial estate or city center or Bay Area.

The only way I would operate is through membership and limited numbers of single guys unless a certain type of event.

Any of the above. The club will be successful wherever it is situated in the City, provided effort is put into it making it an actual swingers club. Cardiff has been crying out for a swingers club fur many years

Melksham was on an industrial site and that worked fine. Bit strange as it was right next to a gym

but it was a nice club, so sure why not.

From my point of view (very limited knowledge on clubs but I know business) -

For this type of venue I don’t believe the location is that much of a priority as long as not too remote and it doesn’t sound like it would be in this case.

For members wanting not to drive to the venue so they would have a drink or two possibly would be the only reason where location comes into it or they don’t drive so transport routes and access would come into this a bit more.

With regards to clubs it’s couples who make a club and without them there is no business or club so attracting them is paramount.

On single guys this has to be managed as too many spoils a venue but like any business this can be managed with the procedures you put into place.

I have to say if you go ahead then all the best and I have to say well done for attempting to go down this route.

Getting advice from sound people with industry or business knowledge is 100% the best way to go about it initially and on going for this type of venture in particular, it’s just everyone will have an opinion and their own thoughts of what would be good for them so it’s to pick what info and thoughts given carefully.

Of course this is only my opinion and may be completely wrong, I hope some of this helps or makes some sense and haven’t gone on too long!!

The old "Nos Da" hostel would be a prime location. Would obviously need a full refurb but good size building with plenty of rooms and previously used as a venue serving alcohol so would cut down on some red tape.

I'd be up to investing as part of a consortium if there was enough interest.

I offered my support a good while back to a couple that were “interested” In creating one which seemed a bit of a fantasy rather than a prospective business venture, I hold a personal alcohol license and would be willing to invest if convinced idea would be worthwhile personally think it would have to be Cardiff the location

Great idea and Cardiff defo needs a club!! Location wise so long as accommodation was near, or on site, that would be better. Too far and it just means one of us drives or expensive taxis.

Agreed with what others have said on single males and that couples can make a club.

We’re really interested to see how this develops x

It's quite residential around there, I don't think it would land well with all locals.

Thank you for everyone’s input.

Licence wise anything that’s close to residential areas I think will be rejected unless someone can pull a fast one over Cardiff Council via a loop hole to which I found a few but in the grand scheme of things I would prefer to do right than have to close because of something I didn’t do correctly.

It doesn't matter where it is, it's if the club is a good atmosphere and caters for everyone's needs, people will come.

I would suggest if it were to happen, you would do your research and visit other clubs across the UK to get how they get their revenue.

Some rely heavily on single guys and others don't. Believe it or not, couple numbers are no different in either type of club from what i have seen over the years.

I would concentrate on entry/membership fees and how your going to continue to bring in revenue during day time and week nights.

It's a business. Bills need to be paid. If its good, people will pay

From a planning perspective, the club can't be anywhere near residential, school or religious facilities. Which is why most of them tend to be at the edge of town or on industrial estated; they fall under sui generis. Leeds council approved a site not too long ago so you could always look at that planning application and case citation. Good luck!

I would have thought that a Cardiff based club would be too close to Chams/ Greenhouse in Newport.

Unless you were planning on operating on different nights to the Friday/Saturday then you would have an already established venue competing for your clientele within a relatively short travel distance.

You may be more successful if you were aiming further West around Swansea, as you would get more interest from people who find a journey to Newport a bit too far to do regularly

I think it's probably hard to open a dedicated anything these days, the costs involved to be a specialist or attract a niche crowd are prohibitive. I think for any club to work it's gonna have to be multifaceted and appeal to a broad range of sex positive communities.

Within Temptation in Torquay didn't have the best start, but started branching out and have slowly attracted bigger and bigger groups, and now it's getting consistently good reviews. So it's absolutely possible, but location is key to get the absolute best out of it.

Since the last place closed the Premier Inn has opened up down there, so accomodation is plentyfull.That would be a big advantage.

Plenty of cities across the country have more than one club running. It'll always be down to preference. Unfortunately Newport's downfall is it hasn't had the investment it desperately needs to make it far more successful.

Eagle50/the locker room on Cardiff is currently closed and hasn’t been refurbished yet, it’s always been a solo gay/bi male venue but I’ve always thought it would work better with a set up like the greenhouse.

It is a good venue with good facilities, sauna and jacuzzi needed renewal last time I was there and the bdsm was quite poor.

Definitely has scope and as it’s already had planning for as a “sex venue” licenses shouldn’t be hard.

Most people are going to say Friday and Saturday nights as weekends are when most are free… However, this will directly clash with Chameleons/Greenhouse in Newport. Maybe you’d be better getting feedback on if people would visit on other days instead?

How about a Tuesday and Wednesday then? Gives people the option to have a couple of days between visits if they’re going to both clubs, or gives an option for those who can’t make a Friday or Saturday?

Obviously all the very best with this.

I don’t know if you’re thinking of something to host just evening parties or something a bit more extensive but it occurs to me that if you can provide hybrid facilities (e.g. sauna, steam, jacuzzi, even a pool and outdoor sunbathing for summer months) that appeal to open-minded naturists during the day as well as some evening parties for swingers in the same way as Rios and Kestrels do in London, you’re more likely to make this an ongoing success.

You’d certainly find me there!

Personally I don’t think having it open on a weekend would cause any issues.Wales is lacking in options just because it would clash with chams/greenhouse don’t mean it wouldn’t work.

Their are lots of places all over the country that have more than one club and they are just as successful and offer something different .
