"WFH? Or what about all the money it brings into the area for the whole week? " Great for the hotel, holiday let and B&B owners I guess. Not so great if you've got a proper job and work you can't get on with. Not that great for the local cafes who always make less money on Ironman weekends because their bread and butter customers and day trippers give the town a miss.

Personally I give the south of the county a wide birth most of the summer due to the crowds. You can’t beat a deserted beach when the visitors have all gone home. "

"I’m a big fan of it, and travel down every year to watch it. It definitely brings a lot of money in. That said, Tenby’s accommodation would be very booked up on a weekend in September anyway. It’s a very popular month for weekend visits. Also, it does cause a lot of disruption, and there are genuine human stories. It costs the economy as well as benefits - I know someone who runs a garden centre down there who has no option but to close. Doing that on a Sunday is a big financial loss for him and his staff. Also, in 2019, a family friend was celebrating her 100th birthday on the day of it. She lived right on the run/bike course and it severely impacted what should have been a special day. Virtually no-one could visit. As I said, I love it and hope it continues. A bit more acknowledgement of the human and economic downsides would be good though."
