Aberystwyth

Ok.

I am saying this out of deep frustration. I have tried and tried to make socials down south, but 5 hours driving there and back is too much. I'm sorry. I want to get to know people, and I have met some lovely individuals, but I almost drove off the road down a nice steep embankment one night out of tiredness and have been cautious ever since.

Is it possible that someone might one day organise a social an hour and a half from Aberystwyth? An hour from Machynddleth? That's just an hour from Newport or wherever, and would allow us mid-Waliens to get down there with less time spent on the road. Trains take 6 hours to get down there, and socials always seem to be on the most expensive Saturday of the month, making hotels difficult. I can pay, but tiredness + cost can be a steep price at times.

Sorry to moan. "You get out what you put in". Does almost driving a car off an embankment count as putting something in?

Again, I'm sorry to moan. I can happily pay £150 once every 2 months to stay somewhere for the Newport socials, it really is just the travel time. Sometimes spending time to get down to Chams to find there aren't many people that want to talk can be very dispiriting, but that's less of an issue.

(I would say that someone in Mid-Wales should organise a social, but that never happens and no-one seems interested. I considered starting one myself, but I honestly think no-one would go)

So.... um, any chance of a social a bit closer to mid-Wales (but not IN mid-Wales- that's too ambitious)? I apologise if this comes across as standard single-male entitlement. I just want to be better than the single-male stereotype that pops in once every 2 months, sniffs around, then leaves without talking to anyone.

In all seriousness I do understand the issue though. Nothing seems to happen north of Brecon! There was an unofficial Wrexham event not long ago, but I imagine the travel isn't much better to be honest

I have met you briefly after your effort to attend a Bridgend Social a couple of months ago so I do know you speak the truth when you say you do travel a lot for these things. Perhaps car sharing, or having a southerner give you a spare bed (or even share one

) might be a work around for now.

I am not filled with hope about an Aberystwyth social but there was/is one down Haverfordwest way I believe.... Good luck OP

After growing up between Mach and newtown I feel your pain. It’s a lovely neck of wales, but fabs years ago simply was too quiet up there to even get meets, let alone a social. That being said yoh may get some people from Shrewsbury, Brecon and north wales attending. Newtown or Llanidloes is probably the most central locations you can get.

Very true. You might know someone who lives 20 to 30 miles, especially in the farming community.

Isn't that a case of 'Mutual Destruction' though? Neither party 'outing' the other simply because the risks are too high?

I mean hopefully that isn't even necessary and overall respect comes in to play. And whilst I do understand those people who fear the 'too close to home' thing, I often wonder
