The term "professional"

OK I've been around far to long here but something just made me think whilst browsing profiles that I never really questioned.

Couples and singles saying they are professional?

Professional at what ? Shopping? Putting the kettle on ?

Now I'd love to know what people actually think it is on a swinging site ?

Professional at running a double life!

It actually baffles me when people use the term ‘professional’ as a reason not to put pictures up. It makes me think… they lack in imagination to take and post unidentifiable pictures.

Professional, discrete, clean. Buzzwords of fab I think.

And of course, Sidney University.

When someone calls themselves a professional though I instantly think sex worker

Her x

That's always got us too.

Pics are a must if there's an all round attraction to be found.

When they say, we don't like showing pics because of our professional lives, it's an instant turn off and no further progress can be made.

We all have professional lives outside of fab.

We question what it is they're really worried about...that someone from the site is going to bump into them in the street and shout hi, I recognise you from fab!?

We've bumped into plenty from the site when out and about. We just say hi and carry on with our day as if nothing has happened.

Were all here for the same reason and your secrets will be safe with us

I agree. Saw a profile saying can't post face pics because I'm a professional and it made me think that they assume that if you do a job not considered "professional" that you will naturally want to post pics of your face and address and telephone number etc.

Some post face pics some don't there is no further debate or justification needed. We're all individuals and grown ups.

Thing is, I do get why it is an instant turn off for most people when they see 'professional' used as a reason for not having pics up.

But I also know a good dozen people who have had their job security threatened by amateurs who recognised them and tried to cross the threshold of Fab and Real World. As if they were entitled to a preferential outcome on what was basically extortionist reasoning.

Image databasing is a thing. Google, Facebook and all the other information harvesters are constantly trying to identify people in all photos posted on the Internet in general. You can bet your bottom dollar that somewhere, there is a computer program looking at your images and trying to work out whom you are. Because you know, you will get better tailored advertisements or something popping up as a result because you accepted cookies one time or another on something else.

I am not defending anyone. Practically everyone I have ever interacted with as a self-proclaimed 'professional' has been a picture collector. But every once in a while, some people can lose their jobs and families because an algorithm somewhere put the pieces together and suddenly their social media feed changed forever and they got outed. I can understand their need to be private. Even if it smells like BS 99% of the time.

And let's not even talk about gossip and blaming idiots for their loose lips in a close-knit community. People always judge the accused. Never the accuser. For example...

1)Did you know 3 are swingers?

2)No? Really? Tell me more? Omg, I can't believe it. You mean?

1) Yeah, apparently they get up to all sorts

2)Wow. Like are you sure?

1) Yeah, I can show you

Nobody ever asks why 1 is aware. Nobody ever wonders why. They just get focused on 3 and what they think they can get. Gossip. It is a thing. And even if it is unfounded, once it has happened, it is already too late .

I can understand the need for discretion when it comes to photos, Ive been recognised while on a client site by a manager. It was a little awkward for a few minutes and I was concerned it woukd get back to my boss or colleagues but they were cool about it fortunately.

I work for a particular organization that needs clearance and had to admit I use this site. I certainly would not put up a face pic on my profile.

One of the reasons for this is you can use photo recognition software and from a face pic you can I'd the person ,I'd their face book account twitter account ect.

I like to keep this part of my life completely separate from anything else

Thing is though, you can choose not to show your pic and that's fine and there are totally valid reasons for it that no-one has the right to question. But claiming it's because you're "a professional" is a bit lame. Just don't show your face, don't give a reason why and own your decision. I think that's the point of the original post.

totally disagree, everyone as a personal choice of what they want to write on a profile. Professional could mean many different things and professional people might only want to meet fellow professionals due to the conversation side of fab. But here we go again we have a lot of people on fab who think they own the site and control what goes on. Come on the site for a year or two and they think they are the owners of the site. Just saying you can write what you want on your profile. Also you have loads of women on site saying no photos no chat. You look at their profile and they got no photos themselves. Laughable

In my experience it's normally people working in office/corporate environments who refer to themselves as 'professional.'

I've seen discussions on various Facebook posts between said 'professionals' and they've been banging on about how they are skilled and refering to people working manual jobs like builders as 'unskilled'.

They think it makes them look smart and a cut above I guess?

It's pompous bullshit. I'm professional but in no way corolate that to swinging, so it is completely unnecessary for me to state it. You can rest assured most people would happily entertain Brad Pitt or Jennifer Looez if they worked serving the counter at McDonalds or on a line in a factory. Professional doesn't make you a better lover unless of course that is your profession, where that in itself may be a turn off to some.

Mr.

Totally agree and there is a degree of inverted snobbery on this issue. We don’t stand on ceremony and only judge people based on how we find them regardless of their so called social status, wealth, education, etc. We both hate arrogance and snobbery, and let’s be clear, anyone can exhibit these traits. But, equally, we don’t have a problem with people saying they are “professional” because it is simply another tag to indicate something about the person or what they are looking for. Good grief, people put so many preferences and dislikes on their profiles, what is the problem with also indicating they want to engage with people of a certain background or to provide some sort of assurance? Yes it is a nebulous term, but so are many used in profiles. And being brutally honest, we have had so many rude entitled boneheads contact us that if any specifics on a profile help to deter some of then, then happy days.
