Mortality

Probably a morbid subject, but with so many family, friends, celebrities, so on dying from various things, does anyone ever question their own mortality? Its crazy to think that one day your living life and in a moment you could be gone. I'm not scared of dying, far from it, but it certainly makes you think.

I've definitely become more aware of time ticking by and feelings almost of panic that I might run out of time before I've accomplished anything. The various lockdowns and restrictions have certainly contributed to these feelings.

I have no belief in an afterlife or reincarnation, and have no problem with death because I will cease to exist. The lead up may not be very nice though.

I want to go in my sleep, like my dad. Not screaming like his passengers!

I believe everything is destined. Everything you believe you choose to do you didn’t. It’s all set in stone long before you were born.

Came off my bike a couple of years ago on a left hand bend, in a split second I was face planting the road & just as I was departing the bike now down & on the wrong side of the road went under a truck going the other way. Combined speed 100-110mph. I bounced a bit at 50ish inches from the truck. Then I got up & surveyed the damage.

A couple of minor cuts & a sore hand, that was it, bike totally destroyed with bits everywhere. A friend checked me out & said “How are you fine?” I just replied “It wasn’t my time”.

Nearing 60 though I find those I know & famous people popping off & I do now sometimes think “Fuck! They were only ....yrs old”. & it’s usually a few years either side of my own age.

Agreed, My dad was one of seven, for varying reason not one of them lived to their sixty fourth birthday.

I find that freaky as my Dad was one of 7 also and so far none of them have lived past mid 60's , Im pretty sure my Grandfather (my Dads side) also died in 60's

The idea of death becomes less scary as you get older apparently. The worry is more of it happening before you’ve had a chance to live.

It’s worse when you’re a parent because you’re also trying to keep your kids alive too. So you’re no longer responsible for just yourself.

I never begrudge getting older. My old man passed away at 54 and his at 45. That’s way too young and I hope I don’t follow that pattern. So trying my best to make the most of my time whilst I’m here.

I’ve also found with getting older and having kids that I can no longer watch candid accident clips anymore. You know like on YouTube or something. Honestly! Makes me cringe. Some of those people could have easily died doing very stupid things. I think that makes me question my morality more than anything. The human body is a fragile thing. Look after it.
