Got talking to an unverified member fairly new to Fab but seemed geniune. Spent a long time and many messages arranging a meeting for Saturday. We paid for a hotel room, that is non refundable now, drove to Swindon and booked in. And the guy has removed his account this evening....

He seemed very geniune but we got caught out...

And new members and even unvarified peeps wonder why it is so hard to get replies to their messages or meets..

Last time we give a chance to any unvarified member..

Unfortunately it happens a lot, & not just to couples & females. One of my first meets on here did it to me, blocked me whilst I was on my way to her hotel which was only a 15 minute walk away.

Maybe nerves got the better of her, I'll never know.

Another cancelled after I'd booked & paid for a hotel, non-refundable, but she turned out to be genuine and had repeat meets with her after.

In your case, it does sound like he was a time waster. Forget it & move on.

Maybe set your filters so that only verified members can message you, less chance of this happening again.

Good luck moving forward.

Never book and pay out for something you can't get a refund on for someone you have never met

i have had a similar experience - arranged to meet a couple and when i got to the meeting point only the guy was there and he told me his wife had to visit her mum at short notice but if i went back with him she would join later - did he think i was born yesterday - i spent hours getting myself ready etc - i wont let that happen again

That sounds very ropey to say the least!

Amen to that! If you can’t cancel and get a refund, don’t put your hard earned money down. Especially for a random person you’ve no relationship with. Life happens and things might have to be cancelled but just be careful in future. Perhaps arrange a coffee first and see if they turn up for that? If it looks too good to be true, it might well be.

A little hard to cancel once booked into the hotel...and they then delete their account

A few years back this was rarely an issue, we have got quite good at spotting the wasters, but this time got caught hook, line and sinker!

Which is why you should meet socially first.

A few years ago I arranged to meet a lady I'd been chatting with on here. I arrived at the pub of her choice, wouldn't have been my choice & waited for over an hour getting deafened by loud pop music & watching sky sports, then drove 20 miles home. Got a message saying her husband wanted to chat & she didn't get to the pub until 10 minutes after I'd left.

I Wasn't happy !

Not the case for me though, I've always met when I said I would and don't have the worry of hotels as im happy to accommodate. However if I approached for a meet and it was a hotel meet and the couple/female replied to me then I myself would expect to pay as it would have been me approaching them.

Well an old friend travelled to Swindon for the afternoon and early evening and a great time was had.

We have met some great people on Fab in the past and although it is hard to juggle free time for both parties to enable meetings at times it is worth it.....

Don't see how that would have helped in this situation.....would still have travelled 100+ miles there and back for a social!!

It's life unfortunately. For every genuine person you will have at least one person using this site as a ego trip or whatever. Personally I would never book a hotel without a social first. Otherwise you could be just throwing money on a what if. It be great if genuine people could meet up as we not all time wasters but I guess that's utopia

The causal nature of this site with it being easy to create profiles has its good points. That can be taken advantage of with people deleting & reinventing themselves often.

Haven't had a no-show with my meets yet. But they've been through other sites where it's harder to create multiple profiles. Plus I've normally been chatting by phone or Whats App if it's gotten as far as meeting each other.

I'd be very unlikely to book a nonrefundable hotel room unless I'd already met them before.

Unfortunately this is scurge of swinging. Those that do it right understand how liberating and empowering it is. They have respect for others. Unfortunately there are far my dreamers and fakes that hide behind an anonymous profile just to mess with real people. Find some good ones and stick with them. Xx

This happened to us recently but for a social only, the lady was verified by multiple people and we’d been chatting for a while! Stuff comes up for people, we just gave her the benefit of the doubt, but didn’t contact her again, and she didn’t contact us! Draw a line and move on, sadly it’s not just the unveried ones who do it! We just made the most of our evening away together instead!

This is my second profile on here after a few years away from the site. It is in no doubt far harder to trust people. So many time wasters make it impossible for honest ‘new’ guys on here.

So decent people seem to get frustrated and leave. Other threat about leaving for 6 months and don’t. And understandably women/couples get fed up and trust either less.

I always push for social in a public place. No need for anyone to commit spending anything without at least face to face chat.

Completely honest profiles and a lot of caution is needed in this place.

Too many like that on here, we all live and learn. You wouldn't have the great times if you didn't take any risks.

Had been chatting to a female on here for a while and arranged to meet up.

She gave me her address and mobile number and when I text to say I was on my way to hers she blocked me on here.

Couldn't make it up

Frankly being unvarified doesn't mean alot on here.

I've been on here a long time, I know people on here personally and have meet up with verified members but people don't bother to do it.
