Agree with that, but the point of the app is for people who don't know where they are exactly. When "third tree from the left" is no good, this is great.

Yes I suppose it depends in which context . For me outdoor adventures is always minus 39 wind chill in the middle of 5000000 acres of nothing at 1000 feet plus !

Personally I have no interest in orienteering or the wilderness, I just want to be able to find my way to unfamiliar places easily. A map and compass is bog all use when you’re trying to find the office you have an interview at, for example. And battery life isn’t a problem if you keep a power pack with you like I do when I’m out for a long time.

I have 3 solar panels on my camper van. Plus I carry a 900 watt suitcase generator.

My van has a wifi hot spot installed also. Google earth is what I use to find locations. What 3 words will be a bonus.

I think the original point was... Is the 'Three Words App' any good at what it does?

If you want anyone in the world who is familiar with it (our Emergency Services prefer it to the usual methods when it is available) to know where you are, then please use it.

It can save lives.

The app it self is great to pin point location and technology is their to use as that's what it's built for. As for compass & map always good to know how to use when adventuring out doors exploring especially when up on the mountain top with a clear view and crisp air hitting your face

Nothing wrong with longitude and latitude.

I've used it for work a few times. I'm sure it will come in very handy for outdoor meets in the future.

"Map , compass , go equipped .learn how to use them . No batteries to fade and technology to fail "

But there is a map to become out of date as the landscape changes, and there is the real chance your compass is off because it's been near something electronic and changed the polarity. I've never seen a phone blown away but I have a map.

Insisting on a map and compass is like insisting you ride a horse because it never runs out of petrol.

Isn't the best option to use technology, but be able to use more traditional methods as a back up if needs be?

We’ve had technology go horribly wrong when we’ve over relied on it and fail when we’ve needed it most. Not going to forget that lesson !

When it’s life or death , there’ll be no phone signal and your device will be too flat or frozen to work . A map and compass has never let me down. I can’t see why you’d need these 3 words for a dogging meet when you’ve got satnav ?

Not used yet to meet up with anyone lol

I never said paper map or physical compass. You're making assumptions. Open the map app on your phone select a location and hold your thumb on it. Hey presto, longitude and latitude.
