"Map , compass , go equipped .learn how to use them . No batteries to fade and technology to fail " Personally I have no interest in orienteering or the wilderness, I just want to be able to find my way to unfamiliar places easily. A map and compass is bog all use when you’re trying to find the office you have an interview at, for example. And battery life isn’t a problem if you keep a power pack with you like I do when I’m out for a long time.

"Map , compass , go equipped .learn how to use them . No batteries to fade and technology to fail " But there is a map to become out of date as the landscape changes, and there is the real chance your compass is off because it's been near something electronic and changed the polarity. I've never seen a phone blown away but I have a map. Insisting on a map and compass is like insisting you ride a horse because it never runs out of petrol. Isn't the best option to use technology, but be able to use more traditional methods as a back up if needs be?

We’ve had technology go horribly wrong when we’ve over relied on it and fail when we’ve needed it most. Not going to forget that lesson ! When it’s life or death , there’ll be no phone signal and your device will be too flat or frozen to work . A map and compass has never let me down. I can’t see why you’d need these 3 words for a dogging meet when you’ve got satnav ?

Open the map app on your phone select a location and hold your thumb on it. Hey presto, longitude and latitude. Mike
