Should schools in Wales remain closed?

Thoughts? Sturgeon has announced schools in Scotland will remain closed for the whole of January, and rumours are circulatubg that Boris and co may do a UTurn and follow suit in England. I'm a bit on the fence really. My 3 have been home since late November as all isolated in turn before finishing for Christmas. The eldest 2 do the online work that's been set etc but are struggling for motivation with no direct teacher contact.

Yes schools should remain shut. Not only for the children and their families but for the teachers and their families too.

Debating not sending ours back if they are reopened this week.

Rather have a child that lacks in specific things than a child that is no longer with us

I think it would be very difficult for WAG to justify opening up of schools, particularly if BJ keeps the English schools closed too. My personal view is that they should remain closed until the ‘R’ rate has significantly dropped (while C-19 rarely seriously affects minors, they are carriers). As we are well aware, the issue is passing C-19 on to someone who can be seriously or fatally affected and with best endeavours, the increased risk of transmission increases significantly while schools remain open. Factors such as economy, mental health, educational needs, C-19 R rates etc are all in mixing bowl and someone has a very difficult task of providing a justifiable response. Undoubtedly not everyone will be pleased with whatever the decision is; but preserving life should be the priority (in my humble opinion).

Some parts are telling me yes some no I have relatives that are teachers and have tested positive from catching Covid in work, you also have to think of the front line workers if NHS staff have kids who is there to look after them if they aren’t in school, sometimes both parents are NHS or could be one NHS and one Lorry driver that’s away all week, others could be carers there are a lot of options, so it is difficult what ever the decision some will see it a wrong one.

I'm a social care worker but I am fortunate to have parents living near me who I can rely on for childcare, although when the kids were isolating, they had to look after themselves (the 2 eldest are teenagers so doable short term) and I had to knock nightshifts on the head for a bit. It is hard trying to juggle everything.

We need another national lockdown and that includes schools. The UK can not operate on discumbobulated rules in different areas, evidence has demonstrated it doesn't work and people are dying. Plus with new virus being developed, im worried it will not be long before our children are affected.

Exactly I forgot to mention the single parents that are carers or nurses that still have to work and have done like yourself, I just feel sorry for those that have to make the decision because it’s not an easy one. But if they do decide to close it shouldn’t be an excuse for the parents to take them out shopping and if it’s nice over the park and beeches mixing with ever Tom dick or Harry we need to start listening or it will never go away

Just spoken to my mate and he said Wales is going to follow Scotland and announce a full lockdown with schools closing for up to 8 weeks.

He’s usually full of crap... so wait and see. ?

Parents who do not have alternative childcare should be offered furlough

I can technically send mine to school as I am keyworker but I work shifts covering a 24 hour period so it would be pointless

Like I said though, I am lucky when it comes to childcare. Many aren't

For me the forums are a great source of entertainment with a good verity of subjects, Especially now as people aren’t allowed to meet up. it helps pass the time.

I'm quite lucky as I am currently off work as my industry is classed as essential. I don't think schools should be returning as it is rife in the schools and spreading to staff and into their families

Personally think it’s good school are closed, I know this causes a major headache for most but sending them to school could cause them to catch it and become ‘super carriers’, let’s hope this nightmare will come to an end soon
