I thought I'd mention my most recent visit to the 'clinic' in Newport(for a check up I hasten to add, not because i actually had anything), as there have been some changes since my last visit a few years ago. They have got rid of the test which had put me off making my visits too regular, y'know the one where they take a swab and RAM it down the hole that really is one way only

It's now just a simple urine and blood test, and if it's negative they inform you with a simple text message, and if it's not you get a phone call (hence my current status).

So now there is no reason why I, or anyone else, can't get this test done after any instance of unprotected sex or before sex with a new sexual partner. This also has the advantage of me being able to identify anyone who does pass something on to me rather than sheepishly saying to the last few partners that they 'might wanna get checked'

Basically it's much easier, less painful, and less embarrassing now to get checked, in Newport anyway (don't know if other places still do the knob swab).

would it not be wiser to avoid unprotected sex in the first place ...yes all clinics use the same test

I think it's great this guy has brought up the subject for those who do not practice safe sex, and lets face it there are plenty on this site who still insist on riding bareback.

Bagging up is better than nothing, but there are still plenty of other ways to get the pox apart from penetrative sex..

Just in case anyone was wondering you can get Chlamydia via oral contact. So always best to have an oral swab during clinic visits too. How many bag up or use oral dams during oral sex?

I admire your honesty. Even if you have pretty much just put me off ever meeting someone on here again...my sex drive has just completely diminished with fear!

It does put you back once you have had an STi. I always worry now and have to ask loads of questions before I meet with anyone.

Not a nice thing going to the GUM clinic
