Well, it's actually better for some than the local lockdowns we were under. We could only bubble with people in the same county. No good if your bubble partner lives somewhere else.

It's sad for those that are struggling financially but for a lot it won't really make much of a difference and hopefully it gives the hospitals a little breathing space.

I a very fortunate as it won't affect me much at all. My social life is almost non-existent without any virus issues because of my job. And my job falls in to 'essential services' and cannot be done from home.

I appreciate I am one of the very few lucky ones, and I do feel bad for those who will experience even worse struggles before the end of this saga.

Won't affect my job, or weekly day to day. But will affect me in terms of socialising and seeing friends etc when I'm child free... Im one of 4 siblings (some not local), and singletons are only allowed to bubble with one other household, so very tricky as to who to chose to give me sanity, but also provide practical help. plus I've been in forced isolation for the past week, and it's not due to end until Friday ROFL

I think it's for the best. As long as the people can follow suit and put up with another 2 weeks. It's only 2 weeks. For the greater good.

It won't be extended, it will end on November 9th,and they don't expect to see a reduction in numbers until the weeks following.

That's not to say there couldn't be another one in the near future though.

Well, they do, its just that by definition a professional sports person is paid and therefore at work whilst training/playing/competing and you are allowed to travel for work where it cannot be done from home.

Cant see families sticking to a full lockdown over Christmas and not seeing their loved ones or Uni students being told they arent allowed to go home .

Where would this WI be? As a keen pool player I feel I need to check out this table for any and all damage to cloth. Also I would need a full and accurate description of Maureen so i can inform her of the dangers of surprises on players whiles cuing up a shot.

I drove past a school today where all the teachers and parents were greeting the (masked) kids off the bus without masks on and the kids were taking them off as soon as they were close to the adults i mean wtf ?

it's incredibly hard working with children and young people, as inevitably at some point they will need 1:1 contact and support. Whether that is sat next to them when they are talking, giving them a cuddle when their world is falling apart, or just being there when they are upset/struggling/just have a need for human contact and kindness. No one in the education profession, would push a child away, regardless of circumstances (I would hope so anyway). Children and young peoples basic needs, need to be met, and whether we like it or not, the majority of this is met during education hours, whether that be through child contact, 1:1 contact, or staff:child contact. It really is essential to their well being and resiliance.

It's inevitable that when you spend so much time with these children, that the boundaries and barriers dissapate, and I believe this really is in the child's interests.

However I totally understand other opinions.

I know one thing, this is almost a total farce. Nothing much will change in these two weeks with the way it is being implemented.

For example, my company is not closing down as we are a flooring wholesaler who deal with commercial contractors (building firms etc) as well as domestics like you or I.

So whilst the family run carpet shops we supply have to close, they can still work from home serving their customers, still take delivery of their goods from us daily. And the farcical part is the carpet fitters are considered 'essential' so can continue to go to 6-8 different people's homes every day as usual.

And yet I can't sit outside on a park bench and have a coffee with a friend or neighbour, or take my dogs down the beach alone for an hour

I'm not advocating an Xmas lockdown, just saying what I think will happen.

It seems strange but I guess it's an attempt to balance reducing the spread of Covid19 and keeping the economy going.

So the carpet fitters are contributing to the economy whereas you meeting a neighbour outside isn't.

One thing I'm sure of, I'm glad I'm not the one making the decisions. You're hurting/killing people whichever way you tip the balance.

I work mainly for an estate agent and have been told that, as a tradesman, I'm not considered essential and can't go into anyone's home during lockdown to decorate. Only tradesmen who can are when its considered essential, ie, water or gas leak

I happen to believe what I see with my own eyes in the real world, and those are the facts that matter.

Perhaps when you can provide some fact-checked evidence, people might at least entertain your opinion as valid. For now, you are only speaking your opinion, which of course you are entitled to.
