Just had a letter drop through the door from parking eye Asda car park Blackwood overstayed by 10mins £100 reduce to £60 if paid within 28 days anyone help where I stand should I pay or ignore

It's £60 for a first "lockdown breaking" fine for a start, not 1k

Now that’s just asking for trouble. we all know the rules at the moment, nobody likes them but it’s the way it is. Same as anything else in life, if you break the rules and get caught, don’t complain. Simple pimple

South Wales Police have confirmed these rumours are bullshit

Noone has been fined for shopping outside their borough

It’s not a fine. It’s an invoice disguised as a fine. While it can be challenged, it’s probably not worth the stress or hassle.

Had 2 parking charges from private frims. 1st when the permit disc fell off the windscreen, 2nd was a 5 minute overstay.

Didn't pay either, heard nothing from the 1st. The 2nd sent a few official looking letters that I ignored. Then they gave up that was over 5 years ago. Haven't had issues getting credit cards & stuff since.

If you feel the fee is a reasonable amount for breaking their rules then pay them.

Choice is yours and yours alone to make. If its adequately and clearly signposted and you overstayed then your bang to rights. If you were legitimately shopping in Asda the whole time and can show a big receipt that would demonstrate you were in their 2hrs you could try that defence and play on that but it's not a guarantee.

If not and you want to risk a CCJ against your name that you can't appeal you could just ignore it and hope for the best.

Personally if I was shopping elsewhere I'd pay the fine and learn my lesson. If I was in Asda 2hrs 10mins I'd play on their sympathy. We all know how easy it is to lose the track of time in big stores.

I'm not saying it will work in your case but I had very similar but I was 20 mins over, argued the toss with them and wrote to Asda, told them I’d done my shopping then popped in the cafe, bumped into friends and clearly forgot about the 2 hour limit, I was warned next time I’d have to pay

If it's a publicly owned car park i.e. Council, then pay it, there will probably be a bylaw in force. If it's privately owned then it's a civil matter and you haven't committed any crime so you can't be 'fined', that's like me trying to invoice you for walking up my garden path if I have a sign that says no entry and a load of small print 'backing' it up. If you don't admit to parking on private land and don't engage with them what can they do? They can take you to court for trespass or breach of contract but a court will decide the penalty and any reasonable costs incurred by them. I ignored two supermarket car park infringements and the letters I was sent were very threatening and legal sounding and they made themselves sound as if they had legal powers, they don't. People pay because they are intimidated. One gave up after about a year, the other was very persistent but gave up after about 5 years or so (I'm not joking). I never replied to any of their letters. The amounts I supposedly had to pay went up and down like a yoyo. Like £60 but £30 if I paid within 14 days or something then it went steadily up as I incurred 'administration' charges....topped out at several hundred then back to the original £60 then offers of the reduced £30 so they would take no further action. It's your decision of course but I wouldn't pay it. I don't make a habit of overstaying my parking ticket but I'd not be bullied into paying charges that are clearly about intimidation and profiteering.

that's what I was told buy a solicitor totally enforceable and if they take you to court hell of a lot more than 60 quid

That's strange people were also saying the laws had been over 5 years ago when I got my ticket. The fees have always been enforceable as in they can take you to the small claims court.

If you park there every day & run up a load of tickets they may do.

The car parking companies have 6 years to chase you.

They can and will take you to court and get a CCJ against you.

So just be careful and keep an eye on your credit score.

There is an excellent group on Facebook that help with these things and also give great advice

I've had a lot of parking tickets from parking eye from all over the country and I haven't paid any of them.

Some private parking companies have also sent me solicitor and court letters and when I did some research I discovered they were fake!

I know of one guy who took a private parking company to court and he actually claimed compensation from the parking company lol a lot of scaremongering bastards.

They Will send you a NIP section 172 telling you to furnish details of whom the driver was.

Its an offence to fail to furnish. If you say its registered to an old address they won't have any sympathy and rightly so.

Police will report you for failing to furnish and not updating register owner address simply isn't good enough as an excuse.

The police can also inform the insurance company and you could be liable to an offence of fraud as location changes insurance rates.

Pay it. Ignore this advice of reg means nothing. Its everything.

Contact Asda first and if you have a receipt

They may contact Parkin eye to cancel it

Otherwise try contacting the ombudsman for an adjucation

They've already paid the DVLA to get the address of the registered owner. That's why the fee is higher than the original ticket price. The pay it early amount is the target amount they hope to get. Sending extra letters costs very little so is worth a go. Taking it to court is an up front cost to them which normally isn't part of their business model.

We looked at MSE and contested it. Same as you in essence. Vehicle is in hubbies name, me on camera. Registered keeper not legally obliged to disclose who was actually in charge of vehicle at time of 'offence. The letters they send out are all Panda Car checkerboard design to frighten you. If it was you they probably have got you. If it was in a Supermarket car park, contact the manager if you are a regular customer. They can get them cancelled.
