Extended lockdown

So with the announcement that ‘some form of lockdown’ (ie reduced measures) will continue until a vaccine is found / until the new year .....will people keep their discipline with not meeting or will we see the advent of masks being worn on the hot photos / videos ?

Nearly everyone I have seen in Tesco wearing a mask (most have been in the 50ish+ age range) all they do is fiddle with them all the time then touch items on the shelves, then fiddle with the fucking mask etc. They look ill fitting (hence probably the reason for said fiddling). And then comes the wearing of disposable gloves for everyday tasks....my father washes his like he washes his hands. What is the fucking point. I despair. I have to wear the masks gloves etc on a daily basis at work but they are fitted correctly, used correctly (task dependant) and disposed of correctly. I can see how masks *may* have a place , if fitted and used and disposed of correctly, on places like public transport where social distancing cannot be adhered to. Otherise I feel they are becoming more of a hygiene hazard than a protection in the way the general public are chosing to use them

But then the question is why do countries where the citizens regularly wear masks and - to some extent - gloves have such lower infections rates?

These are areas far closer to china - Hong Kong / Korea

There must be something in it

Unfortunately there creating a fall sense of confidence. People don’t seem to realise that gloves are to stop cross contamination. Wearing them all day is no different to not wearing them all day. I came across a great video on Facebook the other day where an American nurse demonstrated how things transfer around by using gloves and paint. Was surprised to see something correct and informative on Facebook for a change.

The gloves things is crazy

People touch their faces with gloves on then touch other items

They're a total waste of time in a day to day environment like a supermarket, probably causing more harm than good as no doubt some people who wear them feel they can be less thorough with handwashing because of the magic gloves

But the advice seems to change like the wind.

Yet in places in Asia where it’s a culture to wear masks - a hang over from SARS in early 2000’s and Bird Flu -their rates are far lower than Europe and US

I don't wear a mask when at supermarket as I do my best to keep a good distance from people and may appear rude to some people when I give them the death stare if they get too close. I even had to say to a mate who wanted to chat in the aisle 'what part of 2 fucking metres dont you understand' - made a few heads turn in Aldis! However, I wouldwear a mask if I was forced into a more confined situation. I do wear a shemagh ( a bit hot in this weather) and often put this around me if having to pass people on a footbridge etc

I think a mask or scarf could be seen as a sign by others that you are taking it seriously.

You need to look at the testing regimes, contact tracing and lockdown procedures before stating that masks are having an effect.

Me? I've fashioned a full head shroud from a shower curtain. Works well but did hit 4 parked cars in it when driving to Tesco yesterday. Such is life.

Your fault for going to Tesco. I personally find kwik save to have far superior parking facilities. No matter what time I go there, there’s always a space

Possibly because they're used to wearing them? So they fit properly and they don't need to touch their faces all the time.

Try working on a till at the supermarket when they decide they want to chat with their masks on. Cant understand a word.. So politely smile and move on to next customer.
