"What reason should we have power cuts "

Reduced engineers on site maintaining and operating the power stations and offshore wind turbines.

Systems need maintenance or they fail. If they fail then the response time will be delayed, hence the warning of be prepared if it happens.

Too many people all home at once watching TV etc, the national grid or whatever they're called these days can't keep up so they are switching off power for 4 hours a day in different parts of the country just like in the 70s

Fake news.

The water and power have triple back up systems to keep supplies going even in the event of a catastrophe.

They are designed to be able to be operated by minimal staff if required.

There maybe the odd regional blips but national I don't think so.

Absolute nonsense. They’re running out of news. Just read the Independents article and pretty much said it’s very slightly more likely there could be, so the vulnerable should have torches etc. Saying there are multiple back up systems.

Nicola Shaw of the national grid says power usage is actually down. “In fact, demand across the country is expected to reduce; largely owing to a decrease in energy use from industrial consumers, which is likely to be greater than the increase in domestic demand as people stay at home.”

Nope. I work for one of the big power suppliers and we are continuing with work as usual.

I can remote access the majority of the machinery for condition monitoring so do not need to travel to site unless needed.

We fall under the key worker bracket for power and utilities

Yep there are three vessels as we speak doing six week stints opposed to the usual two for turbine support.

Flights have been cancelled however the company I work for will still fly in an emergency situation.

The TK project which I'm on has been put on hold however we have been allocated FS roles in the mean time.

A six week stint will do me fine if I get the chance

If you get a generator put a three prong plug on it plug it in to a socket turn your mains fuse off you will power your house that way but only put the very bare essentials on freezer and couple of lights. Don't try this at home kids but does work.

Alright H, well we are under house arrest. We can’t go for a walk. We can only go shopping and right back home. The police check your shopping to make sure you only get essential food. A woman got fined €500 as her shopping was not essential.

People are starting to get pissed off being stuck in your home 24/7

The number of cases are getting very low here. They should let us out even for a walk now. We’re coming up 3 full weeks on lockdown. It’s not doing anyone any good being stuck in side all day every day!

Otherwise know as a suicide lead as if the plug gets unplugged when the generator is running the pins are live, and exposed.

It's a good tip but needs to be done with care. Turning the main switch on the fuse board off is also mega important so you dont electricute the person that will be fixing the cause of the power cut.
