Members of my family work for the nhs and cant see there kids right now and have to live in a caravan on the drive because they cant get tested when they are in direct contact with this viruses. Soo fuck yeah they can have some free stuff it a small way to make it up to them after this country spent 10years voting in tory cunts that have to strip mining the nhs

Honey love your post. BUT. Having friends in key work post who are now working 7days aweek 12plus hours a day. One phoned me last week shattered and cryin as all she wanted was a cuppa tea but couldnt find any milk.

The food shops have reduced their hours so for these key workers to be able to take a break get food & milk. Is a positive aspect to their rather busy life style at the moment. Oh are you going to work every day ? !

Not I would be interested in a wedding dress. But have been bombarded with offers.

I’m happy with being allowed in the supermarkets an hour or two earlier and that will do it for me as a key worker.

As someone mentioned it’s good publicity and businesses are going to need to come out of this in a strong position.

The NHS are working their arse off so the odd perk is fine by me.

I'm a key worker and get non of this. But then again I'm not on the front line. The greatest thanks we can give the NHS and all its workers is to ensure that it will always remain NATIONALISED and properly funded.

Until society values them in real terms rather than just by paying lip service that will never happen. At the moment people who give them stuff are being criticised and having their motives questioned and loads of people are feeling good because they applaud once a week. It all seems a bit a about f to me

I’d be happy to just be able to afford to live without having to work 2 jobs. The stress and tension in the nhs is horrific. While you’re all moaning about having to spend time with your kids, we are having to send our kids away to be taken care of by someone else. Not only because we could be infecting them but because we’re being begged to come help with short staffing even on the non covid wards. Can you imagine how that’s going to affect our relationship with our kids? Especially those who are separated and struggling with kids who hate them already. You’re welcome to the discounts. They aren’t useful to most of us anyway.

If, as is widely accepted, boosting key workers morale by standing on our doorstep and clapping on a Thursday night is good. Why is giving them free stuff or preferential treatment considered bad?

The staff from the "closed department's" will have been redeployed to work on the frontline(they are themselves frontline staff) . .. For example Physiotherapists who work in an Outpatient Clinic WILL be now working on a ward or out in the community...

Don't think for one moment they are sat at home.

I

I think a lot of us understand that. Most of us if not directly affected will have family and friends who have had the rug pulled from under them by this. It's horrible, they don't know how they're going to manage in the future and for lots of them the only help they're being offered is to rack up debt.

I empathise and do understand that seeing people getting help when you're getting none is very demoralising

I feel for the truck drivers and supermarket staff. In my opinion they are doing great work under pressure.

The supermarket staff are exposed to quite a lot of risk infection wise.

I think perhaps volunteering at your local hospital in whatever capacity will give you an insight into just what the NHS are going through at this time and perhaps that will change your perspective..

Now is not the time for petty jealousy of people who are working in conditions where thus far 3 have died from contracting the virus..

Try putting yourself in the head space of someone saying bye to their loved ones to go to work knowing that there are currently 25% of doctors and 20% of nurses sick or isolated at present..

If you make an unkind and selfish post you can expect unkind responses.

NHS staff are being used by an underfunded system, even office staff are being redeployed to clean wards and work as porters (moving infected and in some cases dead patients). Key workers in shops and supermarkets are to be praised but NHS staff WILL come in to contact with the infected and many are being pushed so hard and working so long that they are left as run down, exhausted shells. Many of them will die if they catch this their systems are so shot. Sleep issues and alcohol abuse are already on the rise as staff try to cope with the stress.

You are moaning because some shops are offering a discount to people who are often going to work before the shop opens and coming home after it closes.

You are entitled to your opinion of course, just as others are entitled to theirs - even if you disagree.

I hope you and your mother remain safe and if you do want to volunteer there are areas that need people to just take an hour or two to make phone calls to elderly or vulnerable people to check in on them. People who are high risk or have mental or physical disabilities and are living alone can be very frightened by this situation and the phone calls are a great help. Your local trust will have details of anything they are running like this.

They are saying that at the moment the test kit to prove whether you’ve had it or not is not reliable enough and a false/inaccurate test is more dangerous than a positive one

The NHS is doing a stalwart job however let's not overlook the others who are working to keep some semblance of order in these trying times. Supermarket workers, bus, train, lorry and taxi drivers, farmers, milkmen, postal workers and many others who are facing greater dangers than most just from doing their job.

Let's not forget them in our praise!

Well said here too.

My concern is the hero labelled is newly being applied to NHS workers as it was applied to the armed forces 15-20 years ago.

The lionisation of these professions is weird in my opinion. They are wonderful, and I am extremely thankful to them. I absolutely know their selflessness. It has been my pleasure to support both at times.

But singling them out among all the other care givers does not sit well with me.

Gee... I cannot say it better than Floro. Well said!
