"Be patient I would say, these are unprecedented times , they will be inundated" I echo that. This is a huge undertaking. There are many, many circumstances to consider.

"It was always blindingly obvious that the 80% of wages thing simply wasnt going to work A basic household income is the way to go Fuck knows how that would be implemented, but there is a huge amount of people out there with no income And that wont end well" My sons getting 80% so its working for some guess it takes a bit of time to implement for all.

"I think in reality people will go into dept and probably have to claim it back or it will get scrapped they won't be able to sort an entire country's wages out in such a short period of time. Boris has said that no one will suffer long term hardship so for once everyone may have to try and believe a politician I know it's hard too. " If Boris says something that he's not going to do, you can guarantee he will do it

"As a self employed person I too am hoping they will finally sort us out an income replacement like they have for the employed. I know it must be very complicated to get the computer to multiply our profit on our tax returns by 0.8 so this may take them a little while. Patience is key (to steal the line from a well known forumite)" It’s not just the self employed who submit their returns through the SA302, there are also hundreds of thousands like me who set up A limited company to be self employed through, we pay minimal salary and take dividends instead so if they base my income on salary it’s £719pm, well below the minimum income/poverty line and nowhere near the 80% upto £2.5k mark, no work, no income , no dividends

"Be patient. Getting angry and aggressive helps no one . " This.. Would add that the people carrying out the service deserve respect and a bit of understanding that at this time they might not want to be in a call centre and might rather be safe with their own would not hurt..

If anyone is struggling it seems the banks are helping people, just mention the virus and they are helping people manage until they are in a better position / get paid out by the government

"Has UBI been demonstrated to actually work anywhere? I know Finland recently ended their experiment with this, I'm not sure the current exceptional circumstances necessarily justify the longterm implementation of this strategy " Nope!

"Are self employed people claiming 80% of what they actually earn or 80% of what they tell the tax man they earn?" As long as it's targeted at those that really need it, which is probably a large proportion. I know a couple of self employed I.T. Guys on 100k + who really don't need a bail out

I can vouch for what Fabio is saying about our colleagues in the DWP lost loads of staff.Where have staff with underlying health issues , caring responsibilities for family over 70 years old or have fallen ill themselves. It’s 7 days self isolation then ring the office manager who will advise what we will do next as it changes day by day as these really are unprecedented times in the DWP.Some could be off for up 12 weeks caring for elderly relatives or their underlying health conditions.

Exactly my point Millions of people now have no income Many dont have a clue if they will still have a job The benefit system simply wont cope. And thats before you consider the health and wellbeing of existing dwp staff. Basic household income solves alot of problems. Quite how it could be implemented I dont know. But I really think that we are looking at civil unrest soon if something isnt done

"Are self employed people claiming 80% of what they actually earn or 80% of what they tell the tax man they earn?" Self-employed aren't able to claim 80% of anything at the moment. And if they were it's likely to be 80% of the average pre tax profit (taken as an average over the last 3 years). Obviously that brings extra situations with it, people who are newly self-employed so haven't submitted enough to make an average, people who have had to have time off through illness maternity/paternity etc
