They were closed but still cooked up the food and offered it to the local community at half the price. You had to supply your own plates / containers to take it away in. If interested you were given a set time to arrive and collect with 5 minutes between each collection. It went down a storm and most in that area were grateful for a decent cooked meal, as struggling to source food. Better that than good food gone to waste | |||

I know of a couple of cases where the pubs had prepared and bought extra food for Mother’s Day.
They were closed but still cooked up the food and offered it to the local community at half the price. You had to supply your own plates / containers to take it away in. If interested you were given a set time to arrive and collect with 5 minutes between each collection.
It went down a storm and most in that area were grateful for a decent cooked meal, as struggling to source food.

Taking away people's basic human rights to roam and removing their civil liberties to come and go is a serious serious step, I personally think it is the wrong decision for many reasons. I do think that the elderly and vulnerable need protecting and this should be achieved through self imposed isolation and distancing. I also agree that a minority of inconsiderate people are spoiling it but putting the whole country under house arrest is not the answer and giving the government the power to do so is a scary, Orwellian notion. We tried that but people didn’t follow the rules of social distancing. So the only way is lock down, that might make those that have flouted the rules so far, think a bit more of how they act when it’s partially lifted. Yes. If people had done what was needed in a global crisis then maybe it wouldn't have come to this. I'm no fan of politicians, particularly these ones, but infectious diseases don't give a damn about your civil liberties, and human lives come first. And what would that be close the whole world down? Essential functions only. The economic consequences will be catastrophic, of course, but so would the alternative death toll. Close countries and flights??? You do realise that people are still coming in from all over the world?" I'm not in charge. Agreed, the concern that I have is the worse case scenario of a total restriction of movement which could have more detrimental effects than the virus itself. A managed and thought out, defined period of limited interaction could prove effective in the short term although isolation will probably not provide mid to long term solution. | |||
