Doctor appointments

Had my smear test today, the nurse practitioner rang to confirm it as I am not showing symptoms I was able to attend, the doors were locked and I had to buzz intercom to gain access once I was cleared I was the only person in the surgery, I had all my prescriptions sent to my nearest pharmacy and was told all my regular appointments will be done through phone consultation. If anyone requires medical assistance, they should ring their docs at 8 am in order to get a phone appointment. Stay safe every and take care of yourself.

I had a telephone converstaion with my g.p this morning for a sick paper and prescription for more painkillers for a back injury. Similar set up, surgery all locked had to ring bell and someone brought them out to me. Everyone masked up in the pharmacy aswell bless them

I'm a practice manager and can confirm this is the way at our practice too, has been for the last week, all our GPS are triaging patients and if they are symptom free and need to be seen we are seeing them, if they have symptoms and still need to be seen we are seeing them in our isolation room with the little PPE we have !

I had someone criticising me for attending my appointment telling me I should wait for it all to blow of and saying I was putting myself at risk.

Those are people with no idea, the only reason surgeries have doors locked is because people kept coming in for silly things rather than staying away, it also allows the surgery to keep staff and patients safe so we can all stay open ! Certainly no reason to be criticised at all your health is important covid related or normal !!

Monday last week I went down the surgery. They had a table in front of reception so you couldn't get too close. I booked a telephone appointment. The doctor called me and after chatting asked me to go to see her. She emailed a presentation. Collecting it from the pharmacy was normal.

I needed another week of anti biotics yesterday. I called the surgery for an appointment. The doc called me back. She emailed a prescription to the pharmacy. Bit different now when I went to collect: only allowing 3 people in at a time. Only ppe they had on was gloves and I didn't have to sign. Big signs saying don't go in if you have any symptoms too.

That shows the lack of understanding regarding the importance of a smear test. Life still had to go on. You did the right thing xx

I had a hospital appointment yesterday. It's a specialist cancer hospital and on every entrance there was a member of staff asking about symptoms etc. It was a lot more quiet than usual and my consultant had the chairs 2 metres away from her desk. She apologised but I was glad they take precautions.

Our local hospitals are not allowing visitors unless in an emergency (dying) even then it's limited to one visitor per bed ! We are in a new age, it might actually make people realise what the health service is for though !

I was meant to have my smear test tomorrow, I cancelled it, as I see it as non essential right now.

I have a specific type of smear after having cancer a few years back. It means I have to make appointments a good while in advance.

I was meant to have an appointment on Friday but it was cancelled. I will rearrange it when I can, but at the moment it's down to risk avoidance - yes it's vital to have a smear, just not vital to have it this week. There are other people with higher needs who absolutely need to be seen now, makes sense to me to keep them as isolated as they possibly can.

Honestly, I appreciate my surgery for doing as much as they are to keep people safe.

Agree with all of the above statements.

I believe that current NHSEngland advice is that smears can go ahead, but patients under ‘normal recall’ (i.e. normal smear 3 years ago) are being give the option of deferring it if they wish. All higher risk smears recalls should still go ahead.

It is a tough job at the best of time. The current way of working is not ideal. We are wearing PPE for all face to face contacts.

Positives to hopefully come out of this crisis:

1. The introduction of Video consultations.

2. Increased awareness of the demands on healthcare as a whole.

3. The NHS being properly funded.

4. Better self-care amongst the UK population- you do not need to see your GP for a ‘cold’.

5. Improved standards of hygiene amongst all.

Stay safe! Stay at home!

I had a doctors appointment 3 March. 4th March I received a text saying surgery was closed for appointments for the foreseeable future. There would be telephone appointments only.

Doctors surgeries are under immense pressure at the moment ! Thank you all for supporting the nhs and listening to the advice
