most fundamental aspects

If you have or think you’ll be affected, here’s a step by step guide what you can do.

1. Speak to your employer. They may have plans in place, they may have had to change their plans since the new update on Friday. If that doesn’t work....

2. Check your contract. It will tell you what you may get over and above Statutory Sick Pay. If you can’t find it, your employer is legally obligated to give you a copy. Some “staff hand books” are on internal internets, so if you’re working from home and can’t access this, again ask your employer. If you still can’t find the answer.....

3. Advice is available online by googling Citizens Advice Bureau or ACAS .... whole pages of advice have had to be rewritten since Friday, so if you still can’t find what you need......

4. The above and other agencies are working flat out to help people, and the majority have moved to telephone appointments. They are very busy and are, themselves only digesting the biggest changes at one time to employment and benefits they’ve ever had to handle. Have your contract (if you have it) to hand as they will ask details. You will get an appointment, it might not be for some time though. Don’t worry, they are doing all they can to help, but they have absences, some have phones diverted to home workers. Some great volunteers are still working to help. All backed up by specialist staff.

Lastly please only get your facts from trusted sources, they are out there.
