I actually listened to Sturgeon a little prior to that time. Legislation is being rushed through over next few days. Therefore she's warning those remaining open that they'll face enforced closures.

Police Scotland have used different powers to avoid the delay in legislation. They are serving 24hr closure orders on premises that refuse to close. They are using powers that already exist under the Licensing Scotland Act. They will also be reported to their relevant licensing authority for further action.

Fair enough. Then I have to question why they are wasting time with emergency legislation if current legislation covers it.

And I'm simply quoting from the BBC News channel wherein the news feed states Scottish govt proposes legislation to enforce closures.

The current legislation only allows for an establishment to be shut for 24 hours maximum, although it can be reapplied repeatedly.

The new legislation will no doubt enable forced closures to be for a longer period.

I believe that's to enforce longer term closures, the police already have the power to close them for 24 hours at a time.

Well the emergency closure orders are likely (I’m surmising, I have no info source) to only cover licenced premises. The new legislation would cover things like coffee shops, or anywhere else who do not serve alcohol.

The other interesting thing is what kind of a view licensing boards will take, when the pubs licence is up for renewal
