I'm fascinated that a very short time ago it was "be kind" now it seems like a free for all out there

Lots of people are being kind. My parents have been offered help by loads of people, I see Facebook posts from individuals and businesses every day offering help. Supermarkets are making huge efforts to put things in place to help people and local groups are distributing food, offering virtual company and advice.

I know there are people trying. But why are supermarkets empty of stock. Old people struggling to get food and basic supplies. I was in a supermarket yesterday just getting basics and a guy was having a proper go at a woman I know for having two large cartons of milk. She has 4 kids and her parents live with her. She normally buys more than that

Supermarkets are empty in my opinion because people are frightened and they aren't getting positive and strong advice from a trusted authority figure. This is my opinion only but I think what we need is an older, respected person to lead from the front. To deliver with authority a clear and easy to understand message that everyone can understand and keep delivering the same message until it's understood. Unfortunately we don't have anybody who fits that description currently.

At the moment we have people on Facebook telling us not to touch petrol pumps without gloves on who are being listened to more than the people in authority and a lot of criticism of what everyone else is doing. We need clear and positive guide lines not stuff people make up and copy and paste an NHS logo on before posting on Facebook. The most recent one I've seen is advice from "a nurse" to put Vicks round your nose for protection.

That was my original point. People are having a free for all. Call it being scared, selfish or just greedy. Just follow the guidelines and it will be ok

But what are the guidelines? Lack of clarity is in my opinion what's behind a lot of this. We're hearing that we might go into lockdown, that London might have greater restrictions imposed, that things will undoubtedly get worse and nobody that anybody trusts is standing up and saying "you need to do x,y and z for a, b and c reasons" in a concise and firm manner. We need someone who is able to pour oil on troubled waters with respect, dignity and authority.

"I totally take your point "

I get yours too .

We haven't done any panic buying and now I can't get bleach, cat food or flour. Everything else we can work round and go without or substitute. I get annoyed with panic buying but I also understand why people do it.

I just don't get panic buying I really don't. If everyone was just shopping like normal the shelves would still be fully stocked and everyone could get what they need. It's not like there is a food or supply shortage. The items are available, just shops can't cope with the panic buyers so in the end everyone is going to struggle. I already noticed prices increasing on the bits I bought yesterday

I've seen someone moaning about some fabbers being judged as they're still looking for, and meeting others. Then moaning that #bekind didn't last long. Words fail me. They really do.
