"May I ask why it makes you uncomfortable? Personally I don't see an issue in him calling it a Chinese Flu. It's simply where it has originated from. Apparently the Chinese claimed it was planted by the US. Those comments should be more concerning." Because its rude and disgusting to say.

"Apparently an aid of president Trump has used this term to describe the covid 19 virus. Trump is publicly calling it the Chinese virus. Personally we're finding these terms pretty uncomfortable and been accused of being 'snowflakes' because of it, we can live with that accusation. On a serious note, is this type of talk by said aid and Trump anywhere near acceptable?" 62 million Americans couldn't give a shit as long as the rest of the world falls in line

"I don't understand why it's rude and disgusting. It's a flu which came from China " Names like this encourage a rise in racism against Chinese people. As if it was their fault. Apparently this happened in 1918 too. Corona virus, Covid-19, the pandemic, all work fine.

"We find it distasteful but they do call the deadly flu from the 1920’s Spanish flu and that’s generally accepted so it’s pretty much the same, Kung flu is definitely not ok " The name Spanish flu arose from a variety of reasons. Spanish Flu didn't originate in Spain. One of the main reasons for the name was the high level of reporting of cases. Spain was neutral in WW1 which encouraged greater levels of press freedom. The chinese/wuhan/kung flu is all part of a spat between china and the US. Both countries have been expelling journalists in a tit for tat cycle which the US started. Its also a dogwhistle for those inclined that way.

"Black death!! Racist " Pardon the expression, but it's not that black and white. What is important is the intent in using certain terms. It's not coincidence that it is politicians and broadcasters of a particular party that insist on using such names. This isn't accidental or something new. In China, the CCP have been suggesting the corona virus is actually of American origin. The wikipedia article on syphilis has this on the history of the disease: " syphilis had been called the "French disease" (Italian: mal francese) in Italy, Malta,[27] Poland and Germany, and the "Italian disease" in France. In addition, the Dutch called it the "Spanish disease", the Russians called it the "Polish disease", and the Turks called it the "Christian disease" or "Frank (Western European) disease" (frengi). These "national" names were generally reflective of contemporary political spite between nations and frequently served as a sort of propaganda; the Protestant Dutch, for example, fought and eventually won a war of independence against their Spanish Habsburg rulers who were Catholic, so referring to Syphilis as the "Spanish" disease reinforced a politically useful perception that the Spanish were immoral or unworthy. However, the attributions are also suggestive of possible routes of the spread of the infection, at least as perceived by "recipient" populations. The inherent xenophobia of the terms also stemmed from the disease's particular epidemiology, often being spread by foreign sailors and soldiers during their frequent sexual contact with local prostitutes.
