Its scare mongering... why is it all doom and gloom..

lets go back to basics

the virus has been around for years. yes the NHS gave out the Flu jab for the erderly due to the vulnerability.

China gets it and all of a sudden their are clear and now advisors of how to minimise the risk.

well check Chinas acconomy prior to the virus.. it was about to crash. lone be hold their back on their feet.

I don't see any graphs or media stating the survival rate... just deaths.

but without being morbid here.

anyone seen any media on mas graves being done for deaths.

was all over the news when we had mad cows disease.

So you think all this upheaval and a Tory government releasing billions back into the economy is to scare people?

There is an element of scaremongering but not to the degree you are saying and it's not coming from the government but rather some idiotic people who spread inaccurate facts via Facebook and the internet.

The ECONOMY of China? How are they now back on their feet?

I think you need to reread what you've written about it being around for years. Viruses in a general sense have been around for years, yes but this is a new strain one for which there is no vaccine for yet.

Are you pulling the piss, Goto YouTube search Royallab stats, live counter, there is some graphs and figures for you, and before I get people saying well how do they get there figures, I don't know but they are pretty reliable. The only scare mongering is the media.

Smell the coffee those that think it's a conspiracy, or the world governments have got a cure(not for months) we were all warned China told us back in December and we didn't listen, we can all listen now and wake up.

And the prize for this week's most inappropriate comparison goes to....

Yes, we had mass graves and mass incineration for agricultural diseases like Foot and Mouth - I can still remember the smell... We won't reach that stage, but we're already having graveside funerals with just two or three people present.

Now, be a good chap, and give your head a wiggle. Right now the struggle is between 250,000 extra deaths and 500,000 extra deaths with a faint hope we can get the numbers down if we do this right- why not get yourself on the right side in that struggle?

From a charge nurse In London.

Its horrendous at the hospital. I've done time in trauma and thought I'd seen everything but these patients are so sick. They all have ARDS. We intubated three patients the other night in the space of about 4 hours.

They've turned the trauma ward into a Covid ward and moved the trauma patients elsewhere, so my entire team has moved to another part of the hospital but we are sending trauma nurses to help staff the covid ward. We have over 100 cases now, 50% of them are DNAR.

I have friends on ITU that have two vented patients each instead of the usual one, two of my friends have contracted the virus already and one of the doctors is on a ventilator after catching it from a patient.

I've been nursing positive patients in just a surgical mask and apron, they're saving the full PPE, respiratory and goggles for ICU staff because they think they're higher risk from the virus being aerosolised by the machines.

I think I'm most likely in the incubation period right now because I've had so much exposure after the last week but they aren't offering tests to staff and so far we don't have an antibody test we only have viral swabs to tell us if a person has an active infection.

Stay inside as much as you can if you aren't already, we're starting to see healthy people in their 20s requiring mechanical ventilation, no one is completely safe it seems.

The longer people bury their heads and don’t keep away from each other the longer we will be in this mess.

"we're already having graveside funerals with just two or three people present.

Up here there are communities more than fifty miles from the nearest crematorium - graveside funerals are the only realistic option unless you want to go all old school and have a ton of coal handy. (true story - the first legal cremation happened in Wales when the local doctor and all round nutjob cremated his son, who he'd named Jesus Christ, on a pile of a ton of coal. Given that the doctor was in his late 80s, and the mother was his housekeeper who was about 19, Jesus Christ might have been an approrpiate response to the news of her pregnancy...)

Far from scare mongering the government and press are doing a very good job of keeping things calm. I’m a nurse and I can tell you now that the virus is more infectious than you can imagine. I can’t repeat what I’ve been told over the last day or so but I will urge you all to keep as isolated as you can and wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant or bleach that you touch with your hands, door handles, tv remotes, phones etc. This virus can live on surfaces for up to 7 days. Give yourself a safe environment to live in, be careful when you have to go out and wash your hands and rewipe any door handles or anything you touch when you return home. Try not to be complacent, it’s just not worth it.

It's hardly being kind ignoring expert advice to socially distance and isolate yourself from others to avoid spreading this virus. Far too many think that because they're healthy and get it they'll recover just fine.

Being kind is thinking about the vulnerable people in society, following expert advice to help slow this shit down and prevent the NHS from collapsing under the strain it's already suffering from, and not thinking with your dick/pussy.

Cap d’Agde, France

From our perspective in France it seems incredible that people in the UK are still going out on jolly’s and that the government is still only advising people not to meet, to visit their mothers today etc.

We have been on Lockdown for a week now, only have left our house twice, once for food and for the pharmacy.

Nobody is allowed to walk more than 1km from their house, must be alone and must carry an attestation giving their name, address, dob and reason for being out.

Everything is closed including beaches, National Parks and 100,000 gendarmes and police are enforcing it with 135 euros fines if you don’t comply.

The government is not making suggestions they are ordering this.

The plus is that the supermarkets (where only a limited number of people are allowed in at one time) are mostly complete with little evidence of panic buying.

Although a little bit ahead of the UK in this outbreak I think we will end up in front if Westminster continues to handle this crisis piecemeal.

Correct, not years, but it HAS been about since last year.

There is even some (not much, but some) evidence to suggest that it was in the UK as early as November, but was misdiagnosed.

If the country is to go into lockdown until a vaccine becomes available, we could be waiting until next year.

Having the country on lockdown for 7-8 months will cause deaths in other ways.

Not to mention that's it's financially unviable.

Life needs to continue, albeit at a reduced rate.

I'm not panic buying, I buy food and supplies as and when I need them, and if they aren't available, the I just go without for a day or so until they are available.

I've been providing milk, bread and some essentials to my elderly neighbours should they need it, and I myself have been out of work for a month.

I saw a family at the park today enjoying the lovely weather, and then a group of people berate them for enjoying themselves.

The fact of the matter is, nobody knows what will happen, or how it will happen.

The 'experts' know pretty much as much as the next person, and they are working towards understanding the virus, but let's face facts, they were not prepared, and are already not able to cope with the issue.

And the fact that it is resulting in petty insults on this forum just shows the immaturity of some people when faced with a difference of opinion.

If anything I think they are downplaying how dangerous this virus is, to avoid causing mass panic (which we have had anyway). In 4 weeks it has killed 5000 people in Italy, 800 in a single day. This is more than just a 'bad' version of the flu.

"Its scare mongering... why is it all doom and gloom..

lets go back to basics

the virus has been around for years. yes the NHS gave out the Flu jab for the erderly due to the vulnerability.

China gets it and all of a sudden their are clear and now advisors of how to minimise the risk.

well check Chinas acconomy prior to the virus.. it was about to crash. lone be hold their back on their feet.

I don't see any graphs or media stating the survival rate... just deaths.

but without being morbid here.

anyone seen any media on mas graves being done for deaths.

was all over the news when we had mad cows disease."

Scare mongering.

Tell that to the family of the 60 year old that I nursed and who died. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands at risk.

And BTW. China isn’t clear.

Some people.

That's a good point, to put it into perspective if the lotto created 800 millionaires every day everyone would believe they had a good chance of winning it!

What are you going on about . This is a new type of coronavirus, and nothing to do with the flu (which is the influenza virus)

Unfortunately this epidemic is not a matter of opinion.

There are what was the few, but increasing numbers now, who understand that it is the most serious crisis to hit the world for at least a hundred years. These people are right, but probably still underestimating it.

There are the people who are still denying it, still saying it's just the flu, still saying it's a media panic or a government conspiracy. These people are wrong.

It's not down to opinions. The pandemic is fact.
