Cos I went shopping with my friend today to Morrison’s, Iceland, the food warehouse, Costco, B&M, Lidl, Farmfoods, Asda, Tesco and safe to safe there’s fuck all around. No fresh meats, hardly any tinned stuff only ravioli and who the hell eats that fucking gloop. Hardly any frozen stuff either so what ‘should’ we have say if we needed to isolate for a month?

Currently, I have 3 weeks of prepared meals cooked then frozen, waiting to be eaten as required.

No fresh meat and hardly and fresh veg. No potatoes either. I wanted some jacket potatoes for the 16 tins of tuna I bought! Got my mackerel and kale, and bought 198 bottles of water and filters for my britta jug.

I’m thinking of what you do in a zombie apocalypse, you fill your bath tub with water (cos once everyone is under attack people ain’t gonna man the pumps so your water supply will go) then you knock out your stairs cos zombies can’t jump. But same principle, we don’t know how long this is gonna last.

Yeah but fresh stuff isn’t going to last and if it gets to the stage where we’re ordered to self isolate and it’s enforced (military are all ready briefed and prepped and ready to be out doing this same as police)

You won’t be able to nip out to the shop, you’ll have to survive on what’s in your cupboards or freezers.

Neighbours aren’t going to want to share. When it’s about survival that’s when people get nasty, I saw my nastiness come out in Morrisons earlier when I caught some mad bitch trying to take the last box of normal weetabix out of my trolley.

I knew this would be a pandemic since january so since January have been stocking up and expected to be in self isolation for 3months but probably 6-12 so prepared for it.

All anyone can say now to you is go shopping and get whatever you can and then figure out what to rustle up since most produce and groceries are gone.

They will restock but that's limited since human work force will be isolated too eventually.

During a zombie apocalypse you want anything tinned that can be eaten cold and crackers. You want also matches and fire extinguishers as well as knives.

Make a Lucille by getting a bat and roping some wired fencing around it.

You want a backpack or rucksack as we call it here and you want batteries and torches etc.

I suggest alcohol and first aid kit for medicinal purposes and filter like the Brita you have to help clean the water.

If you want to know more or simply company to accompany you during this said time of the walking dead then pm me before it's too late. Muhaha

What about dried lentils and beans, dried soy chunks too. They will last 'forever'.. frozen vegetables, dried noodles and rice, passata, sauces and spices to jazz up things. Chop some fresh herbs and freeze them too.. eggs will last a bit as well as root vegetables if stored properly. I'm kind of considering getting lettuce seeds and cress and growing some home though I'm crap with green stuff usually.

Our carers are trying to do the normal basic weekly shops for our elderly clients but are finding it increasingly hard to get anything.

Also one of the local supermarkets has started reserving a few hours in the mornings for those in the self isolation categories.

A couple of the supermarkets near me have started to restrict opening hours in favour of the elderly so that they can shop in peace and get the things they require.

They've stopped the 24 hour opening times to make sure the shelves are replenished fully and the first couple of hours each day are when the elderly and vulnerable can go do their shopping, this is brilliant I think.

Public transport is also doing their but with either removing travel times using OAP passes or allowing free travel.

Some people and companies are ace and I'm glad to see that not everyone is out for themselves

Our Sainsbury's last night had fuck all food. I got one solitary loaf of Warburtons bread, the last one, because the shop assistant I asked had stashed it for himself but obviously he felt sorry for a woman in a wheelchair! No fresh fruit and veg at all, no frozen veg, no meat, no lactose free milk (I'm lactose intolerant), no pasta, no tinned veg, no Weetabix, no porridge oats. The list goes on. I managed to get one bag of 00 pasta flour and a bag of weird ancient grains bread flour so I'll have to stand on one leg and make bread/pasta.

. I wouldn't normally class myself as vulnerable, but my kitchen is not adapted for my disability so I struggle to do long/more complex cooking. S normally does the cooking but he doesn't know how to make bread or pasta, I do. Our 17yo son can cook so he's going to have to expand his repertoire.

In other news, I'm also struggling to get the prescription medication I take for my nerve pain and I'm not even isolated. I'm off to work shortly. The whole thing is fucking ridiculous.

frozen meats are best for your freezer or pre-made cottage pie and things like that where its almost a ready meal

.

a little tip; milk is going off the shelves, pour milk into ice-cube trays and freeze, I use 2 cubes in my tea or coffee, and its soon melted and coffee goes to a fine temp for drinking.

.

as I live in the country I have two chest freezers in the garage, one for day to day foods such as frozen paella, prawns, chicken, chips, roast potatoes, assorted veg, frozen home made soups etc and the other freezer is used strictly for shot deer as deer are plentiful in Scotland

remember to hang your deer for 5 - 7 days before butchering and freezing and my rule is **** the older the deer the longer you hang it*****

a 2 - 4 year old buck should be ideally 5 -8 days, ensure you check all glands as this will indicate disease.

infact if you have not butchered your own meat before stick to the butchers

When the real isolation kicks in and a few more restrictions come in place hopefully the supply lines for the supermarket will catch up again.

"I knew this would be a pandemic since january so since January have been stocking up and expected to be in self isolation for 3months but probably 6-12 so prepared for it.

Muhaha "

"I have not bought anything extra. I tend to keep pantry reasonably well stocked with tinned goods, baking essentials, rice and pasta.

Bread and lots of meat already in freezer.

Supermarkets here are still reasonably stocked. "

You're pretty well stacked....I mean stocked by the look of things.

Our local market had shit loads of fruit, veg and meat. No shortage here and a great way to support our local self employed.

"Yeah but fresh stuff isn’t going to last and if it gets to the stage where we’re ordered to self isolate and it’s enforced (military are all ready briefed and prepped and ready to be out doing this same as police)

That's not what been happening in Italy and Spain.

People are allowed out for food and medicines so I can't see it being any different here. "

^^^ This. I don't see the govt having the resources to be able to deliver food to every resident. Even in France people are still allowed to go out but they need to fill in a form stating an authorised reason.

In the meantime try the smaller shops or the Turkish/Indian/East European grocer shops.
