What’s a visual preference of a belly

Somewhere in Norfolk ask :)

Hey fabbers,

I’m currently trying to lose weight the old fashioned way but noticing that with the weight loss my skin is also different to what it once was.

Now part of me is thinking is it better to be larger lady but not have that saggy skin or continue my weight loss journey but then have that apron belly skin thing that requires surgery which I just can’t afford or will ever be able to?

I know for health reasons it’s best to be slimmer but I am so scared of the end results being left with just saggy skin that I have to tuck into stuff and looks bad ?

Thoughts ?

Just do what makes you happier. Larger, smaller doesn't matter if it doesn't inhibit you in anyway. If we meet someone larger we embrace their curves, if someone slimmer (extra bits n all) then we admire the hard work and perseverance they've put in. People that are worth your time will love you just as you are.

You look great as you are. Are you losing weight for health, aesthetics or other reasons?

That will help you decide if you want to continue.. if it's health, perhaps loose skin would be worth it? ❤️

I love a proper belly. Not a flat washboard - a proper little plump mound of a belly. Now I need to lie down…

It's a personal preference that we take, of continuing what may be harmful and likely carries other costs, or to complete our other goals, with the benefits it could bring, alongside the imagined drawbacks and costs. I'd generally aim for the latter, achieved in the style that might mitigate the possibility of the negative side effects. Weight loss has evidence for being most likely as sustainable and healthy generally, if it's lightly progressive, compared with much faster. Getting expert advice and support for your journey could prove beneficial, so that you could be able to take more fully appropriate decisions, that would affect the rest of your life. Often we can catastrophise our imagined outcomes, which then serves as a vehicle for us not to change or to achieve our dream goals, just in case.

We each are responsible for ourselves and it's a huge responsibility, in reality. I can understand how your perceived dilemma could be daunting, bif not absolutely frightening. I often do things largely driven by aesthetics, as I'm a little bit built that way but I do have a force that engenders balance, tempered by my goal for health. Good luck!

From what I've seen gradual weight loss prevents the saggy skin issue. Dramatic weight loss causes it. Plus genetics.

Love your body, it's the only one we have. Do what's best for you. I personally don't care or have a preference. If a naked lady is in front of me and I'm attracted to her, I don't care about her belly.

I feel this!

I lost quite a bit of weight and then had two pregnancies in two years (don't ask, lol), and although I feel better in myself all round, I HATE the sagging skin on my lower belly. I think I may have some sort of sensory issues with it as well as I can't stand the feel of it and constantly wear tight shape wear to keep it in check.

I sometimes think I preferred being a little bigger just so it didn't look so bad but at the same time I feel better all round with the weight loss.

I think we can be incredibly harsh on ourselves though - I don't feel that way about other Women's bodies who have it, but tear myself to peices over mine.

I've lost quite a bit of weight and have all the sagging skin that goes with it but I wouldn't want to be bigger again.

I look decent in clothes, not so good out of them.

It seems that you don't feel happy with how you are now but also think you won't feel happy about how you will look in the future once you've lost weight but for a different reason. That sounds like a difficult place to be.

Do you really 100% *want* to lose weight ?

Hi,

I'm a firm believer in a little exercise.

Nothing too extreme. Just enough to except what I have, and improve how it looks, even if it's only a slight improvement.

It's psychological for me. Learning to accept what I have, the benefits of feeling better inside, along with the healthy choices, plus learning to love oneself.

We are, after all, a little harsh on ourselves with how we look and maybe how others perceive us.

Wish you the all best, with your journey x

Firstly, congratulations on your weight loss. Must be doing well. Me personally I don't care about that stuff. If you're happy that's the important thing, and being thinner and more active has a lot of health advantages.

Only thing I care about is cleanliness, hygiene and how you treat others.

Slow steady fat loss and moisturizer and making sure your hydrated really helps as your skin will slowly recover a lot of it

I'm the same. I've lost weight very slowly over the past 1.5 years and moisturised, used weighys and resistance bands etc. Age and genetics have a roll as well. I've decided to stop where I'm at though. Ive made peace with myself that I'd prefer to look at myself fat than to look at myself with loose skin everywhere.

We have to accept some things as our normal lifestyle often dictates what is practical rather than being "fussy" about food and it's consequences. Personally I love "ample" figures and even more because so much more to kiss and play with!

My tuppence worth,

If your doing it for you, that's all that matters. Your always going to find idiots who past comment, that's their problem, not yours. Being happy in your own skin is important.

As for me, I was always on the chunky side, despite avoiding sweet things. My biggest problem is bread and fresh lightly toasted toast with butter 😊 if I stay away from it for a few days, I'm grand.

After that it's dairy, perhaps it's me getting older, but milk based products, doesn't suit me (I feel sickly despite being tested for lactose intolerance) so I tend to avoid.

I'm in a similar position, doc said loose some weight due to high cholesterol.

Changed my food habits, eat healthier and the weight started to drop off, then it just seemed to stop?

So started in the gym to try and finish it off, early days but hopefully the end of the month I'll start to see some results.

Should make you feel better in and out the bed

Stick with it definitely.

I have lost 9 stone upto now and have been left with excess skin and my boobs have shrunk a lot (much to my dismay) but I do feel better with the loss.

I am hoping once I have my hip replacement I will be able to exercise again and tone up but will still have the extra skin as it has stretched far more than it should have.

So I say stick with it you will feel amazing and hod on the baby oil to your skin makes it feel amazing. Mrs R xxxx

"I know for health reasons it’s best to be slimmer "

I'm not sure that that is totally true. From what I've heard it's better to be fat and take regular exercise than it is to be skinny and do nothing.

The problem is that on average people with excess weight tend to do less exercise.

Somewhere in Norfolk ask :)

Thanks to everyone who has replied really appreciate the comments and compliments.

I want to lose weight for how I look as being 5,1 my over all body fat ratio doesn’t look right, I also appreciate since turning 40 that exercise is good for the aging process and helps keep me young (I hope).

Not got any health conditions that mean I have to lose weight but being fitter and eating cleaner is good for anyone regardless of their size and I really want to have a better lifestyle especially now I’m quitting booze.

I have bought bio oil and will be rubbing that on my body religiously, I also will be doing it slowly with weights incorporated into the exercise to help tone and hopefully slow down the sagging skin element.

I will take it each day as it comes and make my mind up as I watch my body change and go from there, I do agree oil is amazing for stretch marks because when I was pregnant I applied it daily and didn’t get one stretch mark, ironically all the stretch marks I now have on my belly and thighs are from excess weight gain in my 30s from too much food and not enough exercise.

Thanks again everyone and let’s see what happens ! Also well done to everyone on their weight loss journeys
