If visable no, but have chatted to people due to meet said they have a flare up so no for me and them. I don't get them never have

If no flare up as previous person said jow would you know

I think the risk is a lot lower if there's no blisters.

I've never had then and been tested to check I didn't have the antibodies either.

This came from a dilemma where a FWB suddenly said she had a cold sore and said she hadn't had one for a few years. But never mentioned it before even when we shared sti test results!

If you never want to catch any infection you probably are better living in isolation and not having sex.

More people than not have the HSV-1 virus and 90% of them don't have cold sores.

As others say, people don't get tested for this at sexual health services. You've probably encountered the virus and won't know

Yes as long as not a current flare up. More people carry it than you think, just looked it up and around 70% of people in uk carry it. Mrs gets occasional one but mr has never had one, we just don’t kiss when it’s there xx

As long as they dont actually have one at the time you meet you wont catch it.

I used get them a lot as a teenager, but not had one for years. I wouldn't even offer to meet anyone if I did have a flare up though.

My wife occasionally gets cold sores but prescriptions today really help.

If she feels one coming on, she immediately takes the tablet medication and 9 times out of 10 it prevents the lip sore.

She was very sexually active in her late teens and picked up one then before we met and married

HPV and Herpes Simplex Virus are different viruses... Once you've contracted HSV you basically have it for life, once treated it will remain remain dormant in your body unless your immune system is weakened, then it can flare up. hPV can be cleared by the body's immune system

Has a cold sore no, gets cold sores, how would I know? And yes I would as I occasionally get them if in the sun. I wouldn't meet whilst I had 1 and not until it had completely healed.

Precisely 😆 I suffer with cold sores. Their ugly heads appear when I am ill or run down/low in mood. I've suffered with them since I was about 7. They're VERY painful. I wouldn't meet anyone if I had a cold sore.

Same suffer from them since late teens get break out when stressed or run down have a couple outbreaks a year though have found the severity is considerably less than use to always wait to be clear of visual sign and won't meet for a few weeks after that

Like to point out to all the people who seem to get it confused with some life changing disease. Mrs cheeky had had coldsores from a young age, we have been married nearly 20 years, mr has so far never had one, we just don’t kiss when has one. Also something like 70 percent of uk have it so if you go to a club/party your probably surrounded by it.

Most transmission is immediately before or after symptoms, by people just underestimating how long it's active for, but it can be passed on without symptoms (at a rate of around 4.2% iirc). I got these figures from a study a few years ago.

Acyclovir can be hard on the kidneys so it's not recommended to take it continuously, only when you're having symptoms or experiencing several flare ups in a short space of time. You can buy it online or from superdrug or you can get it from any sexual health clinic (as well as several other preventative meds, which I may do a separate post about because it's cool as fuck).

When dormant it lives deep in the nerves, which is why it can't be "cured" but it has a negligible impact on most people's lives. The stigma around it is largely from a 90s ad campaign for over the counter cold sore medicine.

But I don't know anyone with genital herpes

The ingredients are all natural and although there isn't a permanent cure it will stop the breakout of sores within a day or two of the first tingle.

You absolutely do know several people with HSV in the genital area, they just haven't mentioned it to you.

I'd be curious to know what's in the tincture? You have so be so careful with genital skin, especially around vulvas as it's so easy to disrupt the internal flora.

Tea tree oil can be helpful in settling a flare up in early stages, but it's not safe to ingest or use on mucous membranes so it's only suitable for external facial use, not in the mouth or in the genitals.

Sorry I missed this. The ingredient is propolis, produced by bees is has extraordinary properties. The trick is extracting it to a tincture

I make two types, one with alcohol which is the stronger of the two and a veg oil based one that is good for kids or anyone that can't tolerate alcohol.

The best successes (besides helping small cuts heal quicker) has been with cold sores and mouth ulcers.

Anyone who has had chicken pox or shingles carries the Herpes simplex virus, which is the virus that causes cold sores. It lays dormant in the majority and causes little or no effects, unfortunately certain people get cold sores.

I get them and have cancelled meets when having a flare up, it's only fair to. Find the patches are really good for clearing them up, they go from being with me 2-3 weeks, to using the patches around a week, and they stop the throbbing pain

This is what we thought because unless they clearly have one showing how would anyone ever know ? The virus can stay dormant for months/years and never resurface? I feel like it’s an impossible thing to find out.

a great report but I would disagree about sharing drinks... due to my disabled daughter sharing a drink with a friend recently and then her getting a cold sore. No other contact happened.. but the sores definitely got passed on.

I got colds sores a lot as a child, only now and again as an adult. Usually when i'm worn down or sunlight. Hamish has never caught a cold sore from me and as said above we just wouldn't kiss. As for meet I'd cancel a meet if I had a cold sore and expect the same.

I wouldnt even entertain anyone with a scabbed over sore, when youre not infectious.

To be honest anyone's who has had chicken pox in their lifetime will be carrying the herpes simplex virus which is the same virus for cold sores and shingles. Some people get shingles ( I've had it three times) others get cold sores. Majority it lies dormant and never causes any problems. So I honestly don't see a problem, as long as you don't do oral when they have a breakout.

I get them sometimes from stress, lack of sleep or sun exposure but I would not meet anyone if I have a flare up nor share towels nor touch my eyes or the gentital area. I got infected as a child. However, once it heals, it is not infectious and it is safe to be intimate again.

Growing up , we children all had cold sores from time to time. At times when my body is stressed,.. a date! Sun holidays, a wedding, I've sometimes had a cold sore on my lip. So, I've had dates with a woman with a cold sore( much to her annoyance), but we didn't get physical. I'm sure most of the population must have the virus. I haven't had a cold sore in about 20 years or so.

I always used to get horrible colds sores when on holiday and in the sun. UV poisoning apparently. I haven't had one for several years since taking lysine for 4 weeks before going and whilst there. Highly recommend.
