I have type 2 diabetes, diagnosed in August last year. My diabetes nurse is next to useless, but thanks to recommendations from here, I self-referred myself to DESMOND programme and completed it. My HbA1c was 40 at my last check up at the beginning of January, and I did not go on "total meal replacement diet" she wanted me to go on. I just took sensible approach to my diet, and the meds are working (my HbA1c was 75-76 at the time of diagnosis). It's possible to reverse the condition if you start getting into good habits early on.

I was type two. Upon diagnosis the doctors wanted me on drugs but I decided to cut out ALL processed food as well as all drinks but black coffee, water and neat spirits. Fast forward 4 months and I was back below pre diabetes levels.

It's a disease of modern consumer society and is relatively easy to reverse if you just go back to how people lived before they poisoned the food chain with cheap imitations of food and drink.

If you drink lager or wine they you really need to look into what you're drinking. All lager is now made with corn syrup and a lot of supermarket wine is made with concentrated grape juice. Cut down a bit and pay the extra for a proper product.

Type 2 here, diagnosed in June last year.

Made lifestyle changes and have lost weight and brought my Hb1ac back to pre-diabetic levels. Still work in progress! My aim is to not go on medication, ever if I can help it!

It hasn’t affected my sex life but I think it is different for women.

Begin intermittent fasting, cut out carbs, sugar, eat more meat and eggs.

Eating less often and not spiking your sugar/insulin levels will increase your insulin sensitivity.

Eating more frequently especially if you're eating carbs/sugar keeps your insulin levels high. Insulin tells your body to store fat.

Rethink what you've been told is healthy all your life.

I watched one video back in October Dr Pradip Jamnadas with Steven Bartlett (search it on YouTube) Immediately started doing what he said, I'm down a stone and a half and feel amazing, no longer waking up multiple times a night to pee so sleep is much better, dry skin on feet healing up, brain fog gone.

Totally agree with the fasting, prolonged fasting gives greater results, recently did a 10 day water fast, your body is designed to run on fat not sugar. After first couple of days no hunger, everything felt like it was being repaired or reset!

It is more likely to cause problems for men. Persistently raised blood glucose levels will cause erectile dysfunction.

Type 2 for 5 years but I’ve got adhd so I have a self destructive personality.

However, when I’m not in that way of thought, zero sugar or man made carbs.

Just eat meat, eggs and butter and you’ll be fine.

Pills aren’t needed. It was our bad lifestyle that’s done it (type 2)

if it was just the lifestyle (I guess you mean bad diet), most of the population would be diabetic. You still need "help" from your genetics.

"I was pre diabetic until I went in for blood test then went over "the line" I wish my doctor had informed me more ."
I guess they don't want to "overwhelm" us with information. My diabetic nurse, when I asked to be referred to Desmond, she acted all "yes, no problem, will do" only to send me the message, via NHS app, that she'd refer me after my annual review that was due in December (that appointment was in September, a month after diagnosis). That was not good enough for me as I needed that information, and help, asap, not 4 months after the diagnosis. I did the self referral, also joined Diabetes UK website, and managed to take my blood sugar down to 40. So do a lot of research yourself, refer yourself to Desmond (it's training for people newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes) and learn your body's signs for issues with blood sugars. Losing weight helps, too, if your BMI is high.

I've got type 2 and I've had it for over 10 years now and I used to really struggle with it because I was overweight and quite a big drinker and I got a diabetic foot ulcer and it just wouldn't heal properly and in the end I had to have a below the knee amputation on my right leg and to be honest it was the best thing that could of happened to me because I've never felt ill since and I don't really drink alcohol all that much anymore and because of that I've lost over 7 stone now and my diabetes is totally under control now

About 5 years ago, I was diagnosed as being close to "pre-diabetic". I told the nurse about the "pre-pre-diabetic" term I'd heard on TV, and the whole surgery has been using it ever since!

Anyway, as you can see on the photos and videos, I'm a big ol' bird, and always have been - aside from being hit by a bus a few years ago, I've always been healthy. I was advised to eat less sweets (obviously, but I have switched to 'sugar free' ones), cut back on chocolate and watch for 'hidden' sugars in ready-meals, which I do anyway. I also threw myself into eating fruit every day, which has really reawakened my interest in it.

To cut to the chase: I am no longer pre-pre diabetic, and feel a lot better for it. Still built for comfort, but feeling healthier.

My brother was diagnosed with type-2 Diabetes about 4 years ago, but was able to almost miraculously reverse the condition and rid himself of it through a total change in diet/lifestyle.

Be careful with fruit as not all is good for your blood sugar. And be mindful of portion control, too.

There's lot's of advice available.

I'd recommend trying the Diabetes UK website for advice.

Also look up Low Gi diet.

But in a nutshell to really simplify things.

Carbs bad.

Protein good.

Stop drinking fizzy (if you do), booze, bread, potatoes, chocolate....

Hidden sugar is what really gets you, do some research on how many equivalent to cubes of sugar in a slice of white bread.

How much is in a tropicana orange juice .

"3 days a go i was told I was prediabetic not sure what I can eat or not eat seams like everything I was eating was wrong "

1) look at what you eat in the morning; if it's cereal, have a look if there is any added sugar plus check your portion. Bulk it up with fruit (berries work best; avoid ripe bananas)

2) make sure you eat all your meals, try not to snack in between.

3) divide your plate: 1/4 carbs, 1/4 protein (lean preferably), 1/2 vegetable

4) learn to read food labels- and I'd say avoid "low fat" anything as that's where fat is being replaced by sugars.

Eat complex carbs, avoid white bread.

Definitely do go to Diabetes UK website, it has tons of information there.

Plus up your exercise, if you can. Now the stress is more on strength building exercises than cardio (at least that's what my diabetes nurse told me).

We don’t have it ourselves, but know people that do, have also lost a close friend from type 2.

Someone at work is on a trial drug for it atm, apparently it works amazingly, he tested it by having a (controlled) food blowout, then tested his blood a while later, the levels had barely changed! I hope this is the breakthrough needed!

Have you tried a low GL/GI diet? Not low carb because too low and you will go hypoglycemic instead of hyperglycemic. both are bad for Type 1 or 2.

Unfortunately drugs don't address the root cause of Diabetes which is essentially metabolic disease.

Taking the drugs will help with weight loss but also lower bone density and muscle mass. They should only be taken in extreme cases yet they're becoming a trendy fad to allow for continuation of poor modern diet standards.

The diet advice given by the NHS and Diabetes UK is poor and anyone can control type 2 Diabetes with a simple combination of lower carb intake, zero sugar, no processed foods, only drink water/black coffee/tea no milk, walk 3-5 miles per day in one consistent effort topped up with being less sedentary as a whole.

Whilst I'm sure all the above sound pretty crap the drugs don't treat root cause, arteries are still clogging up slowly, tiny arteries are dying which ultimately can lead to circulation and nerve damage as well as early onset dementia (or type 3 diabetes as they call it in many parts of the world).

If you are anywhere near pre-diabetic or full type 2 then take it as an early warning system and get it fixed properly.

I'm not ranting here or calling out any advice as bad, I'm just well read on the subject and reversed type 2 along with losing 3st in 3 months. It's easy and I got my life back as well as my full erection capabilities.

If anyone wants any advice then feel free to DM me and I'll happily expand on the above.

Maybe a path I'll tread in the future, as it runs in the family. Recent bloods were fine, but had one result out of spec, followed the surgery advice to correct it with diet but it stayed the same when the related tests dropped well down. Now they are stumped and all I get it is that it's not correct, but when I ask them if it is a going to be problem they don't know as they have never experienced this despite being a surgery with 17,000 patients.
