When I get restless legs, I use a massage gun on the soles of my feet. Making sure to really work that instep and your heel.

It works like a charm.

I have it, have had it many years and tried loads of things to stop it, magnesium tablets helped at first but then they stopped working. My GP has given me medication for it, i think it's what people with parkinsons take. It works 99.9% of the time. It took a while to get the right dose. See your GP.

Yes. I find salt and too much sugar/ carbs makes it worse. Magnesium oil spray on my feet seems to help as well as just keeping my feet cool.

I had a few years back very bad, to the point I was medicated for it, but I’ve got it a lot more under control now, no caffeine after 3pm, I’ve a weighted blanket for if I feel it’s coming on

London - South East and West

I take Pregabalin for it. 100mg in the morning and 125mg at night.

Its mostly under control with it. At my worst id be walking round the house for a couple if hours at a time. Fall asleep for an hour. Woke up, walk for a couple of hours. And so on. I was so exhausted id fall asleep driving.

I'd also get it in cinemas, on planes, and watching TV. It was horrendous during my pregnancy, my legs were red raw rubbing against my sheets.

So just getting up once at night for a quick walk about is amazing.

Your doctor will need to rule out a few things first (anaemia and various vitamin deficiencies) before they will give you the hardcover stuff though.

Good luck!

Try magnesium in the bath, dead sea salt i think, as i think its more easily absorbed that way. Could be a footbath of you prefer or only use a shower

On off for me...particularly worse on nights when I haven't walked or exercised.

Take iron supplements , they seem to help but will start magnesium supplements as pointed out by others.

"Docs gave me dopamine, ask sum strange questions though, about gambling sexual thoughts and compulsive shopping. Decided not to take in end as could have ended badly"

Dopamine meds for this can cause problems with impulse control in 6 to 17% of people who take it. It can lead to serious gambling habits and sexual problems. It was reported in the news that one lady started going out each might just to find someone to have sex with, which was the total opposite to her usual behaviour.

"Yes.

Too much sugar makes the kidneys excrete

more magnesium. I wonder if this is the connection.

Yes absolutely vile, sugar and heavy carbs before bed bad idea ha.

I've started taking Benfotiamine which is a fat soluble version of thiamine. It's a B1 vitamin and it's been a game changer.

Magnesium glycinate works really well, had cheap stuff off amazon thats not that great, get mine from a health shop and pay extra and works a treat. Did go to doctors and they gave me dopamine but sude effects are a bit much for someone like me. Can cause you to gamble, have dark sex thoughts and spend money!!!! So decide to give them a wide birth

Interesting, magnesium is a cofactor required for B1 absorption.

Restless legs is often caused by magnesium deficiency or more commonly an inability to regulate the uptake of magnesium by the cell walls. Though the more common symptom of magnesium deficiency is cramps which are more noticeable at night. Taking tablets is the most effective way of treating and a pack of 60 will be only a couple of quid. Previous generations would soak their feet in epsom salts, which is magnesium sulphate.

The above applies to long term restless legs... Sudden onset restless legs is something you should talk with your doctor about.

I suffer from this and take Amitriptyline at night. It helps with the restlessness as it is used as a relaxant. It does help me but not suitable for everyone. X

Yes this is what i have found aswell... my complete over indulgence over Christmas might not have helped either, bad habits crept in 😬

Also take Vitamin B complex supplements due to previous deficiency.

My partner was diagnosed with poor circulation which is directly attributable to restless leg syndrome apparently .. the only solution for her is exercise. During colder winter months when running is at a minimum its far worse, come spring thru autumn it practically disappears but I guess different folks have various causes, whatever it`s a horrible affliction.
