Anyone been prescribed this shit for a chest infection. I had a chest infection about week and half ago. I suffer with costo pain in my chest as it is. But since having this prednisolone I've been having costo attacks each night and bad acid reflux. Anyone experienced this.

Were you given an antibiotic as well? If it was doxycycline or co-amoxiclav that's more likely the cause of your acid reflux.

Thank you. A costo attack or flare is caused by a small colostral muscle that connects from your rib cage to your sternum. It can get infected unfortunately you can treat it with naproxen but it will come back.

yeah I'm gonna try take some ibuprofen in a minute. I would ring 111 but they will just ask me to go the doctors. I never find them to be overly helpful to be honest.

Honestly, please don't take medical advice from anyone here. It's a anti inflammatory steroid, but can be used in upper respiratory cases too. My son used to be prescribed it for croup and I have been as I have had an auto immune condition in the past. I am not sure taking ibuprofen with it is safe. Ring 111 for advice.

As far as I'm aware, you aren't meant to take NSAIDS with Prednisolone so please call 111 before you take Ibuprofen.

As far as I'm aware, you aren't meant to take NSAIDS with Prednisolone so please call 111 before you take Ibuprofen. "

Don't stop the medicine until you have spoken to your GP!! Taking Prednisolone after food can reduce reflux symptoms. Also you can seek advice from your pharmacist!

I've had prednisone, which is a steroid, when I had bells palsy a few years ago.

It is an anti inflammatory so should be helping you. All I experienced was an increased appetite as I had to take up to ten a day to start with.

If you've been taking it a while and you have any concerns, I would ring my gp or 111 though op.

I’m asthmatic and it is often acidic buildups that actually cause my asthma to flare.

I’ve been on prednisolone a few times before to deal with said flares.

Might be worth trying an anti-acid like a Rennie or Gaviscon and seeing how that helps.

Also make sure you cut off eating/drinking about 3 hours before bed.

And aside from that, talk to your doctor more. They can prescribe a PPI - a medication that helps you proactively manage stomach acid before you get a flare up.

If your original problem might be related to something like an undetected ulcer or irritated stomach lining, anti-inflammatories like prednisolone can exacerbate the problem rather than mending it.

ibuprofen is bad for heartburn sufferers, which is why I never take it. Andrews liver salts was the best solution for acid reflus. Sadly SGK stopped making it, which for something with three ingredients is a crying shame.

'BigClive' on YT has a recipe for you to make your own version of Andrews.

Enos is available in a few obscure shops, but it's not as good.

Lovehearts and Swizzlers work in seconds for me, as they're sweets, they can be bought in any shop.

Speak to a pharmacist ans look at the labels in the packaging regarding side effects are all good advice.

PPI? Omezeprazole is also available on the shelves, but it works out 4 times more expensive than a prescription.

Ouch! Doesn’t sound kind on the wallet haha

I’ve been prescribed Lansoprazole since I perforated a stomach ulcer I didn’t know I had in 2010. It was not a fun experience. As well as the asthma flare up, it caused ridiculous hot shoulder and collarbone pain that made it impossible to lay down and rest.

If anyone in this forum recognises our profile and has seen us in a club in person - the surgery I (Mrs) needed to rectify it is why I look like I have a zip up my belly lol.

To the best of my knowledge, Omezeprazole is the same type of medication as what I’m on since. They’re called Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs) because they do just that to the proton pumps that exist in the lining of your stomach and create stomach acid.

Once inhibited, your body slowly generates new ones to replace those that were irreversibly inhibited by the medication.

Prednisone is a steroid often used in severe Asthma. It's not strictly for chest infections and has no antibiotic credentials. Amoxycillin on the other hand may be causing reflux, although symptoms will vary from person to person. If symptoms persist definitely see your GP. Call 111 if they're closed for Christmas if concerned. Prednisone is quite strong, dependent on dose. You'll either have 2.5 or 5mg.

Why comment then....hardly helpful. Just shoowing your ignorance as Prednisolone is an incredibly well known and popular steroid used by doctors in many applications

It's usually very well tolerated so it sounds like it would be something else causing your symptoms.

The body needs to adjust as it's creates it's own steroids.

The real common side effects to corticosteroids like prednisalone are usually insatiable eating, face swelling and roid rage...

They do have many other side effects though, and dare say heartburn might be one. Im sure the most concerning one is osteoporosis, but that's usually if taken long term

I was prescribed Prednisolone for my Sarcoidosis and had no issues. The prescribing doctor then realised that as I have Bipolar, I shouldn't have been given it as steroids can trigger a manic episode.

As others have said, pop in and speak to a pharmacist. They have a lot more knowledge around drugs and their side effects than GPs do.

I came here to say the same thing, ive heard good and bad about Prednisolone my doctor didn’t want to give it me for sarcoidosis and said it would do more harm than good and would only prescribe as a last resort, my friend took it for a kidney problem not long ago (some kind of inflammation) and didn’t have any problems on it

Was put on it for infection that effected every joint in my body,yes it did the job,in fighting the joint stiffness but took my well managed,pre-diabetic HbA1c levl blood sugar levels from

42 mmol/mol to 117 mmol/mol in a week,causing no end of mental stress going up on Metformin dose,then adding Gliclazide while balancing bring prednisone down

absolutely do not come off prednisolone suddenly. It needs to be tapered. You should have a blue card as well. Speak to your doctor.

Prednisolone is hard on the stomach. It should be taken with food. It should be on the instructions. Speak with your doctor/nurse and get advice there not on here of all places.
