As one gets a bit older, medical conditions start to happen and medications maybe needed but have you ever had to take even more prescriptions for side effects of the other condition or the treatment of that ?

i was diagnosed with Polymayalgia rehymatica in May,extremely painfull inflammed limb joints, treated with painkillers and Prednisolone a steroid which trippled my managed diabetic blood gloucose levels from 46 pre diabetic to 117 in a week, causing me to need 2 types of meds to bring blood gloucose into line, these issues didnt do mental health any good so also prescribed an antidepressant

once you start the pills it seems you start taking more and more

oh, that sounds painful op. I hope the meds help.

Yes it does seem that way, unfortunately, might it be worth asking for a medicines review with your pharmacist? Just a suggestion.

I think it is just one of those things that's considered by the medical professionals when prescribing. If the medicines are effective but cause side effects, is it better keeping the person on the meds and treating the side effects?

We have a friend who takes anti depressants and anti psychotics, and they take more pills to deal with the side effects than to treat their primary issue (together with senna, because all the tablets are causing constipation).

I add Garlic, Onions, Ginger & Tumeric to everything I possibly can

Currently on Warfarin, stopped taking lithium, have initial consultations with the neurology and haematology teams next week who will inevitably want to prescribe various goodies... not allowed to take steroids due to the risk of mania....Sodium Valproate made me manic a few years ago....Quetiapine may have been responsible for a dvt....Thank goodness for the BNR so they can check interactions. I'd take good health over a lottery win any day of the week!
