The Lake District

In the past 12 months my health seems to have taken a very unexpected turn, ive had 3 autoimmune conditions diagnosed now

(Diabetes Mellitus,

Overactive Thyroid gland, autoimmune arthritis/Rhymatoid Arthritis) and ive lost 12kg in 3 months(unintentionally but was needed anyway)

Blood tests still showing inflammation from RA but no physical symptoms

So Dr referred me for a

"none specific" CT scan, with a maximum wait of 2 weeks so something he wants looking at rather urgently

I had the scan Friday, less than 5 days wait after referal

since then my anxiety is off the scale

What other people's experience of this type of scan/tests and the anxiety it causes?

Talk to your GP about the anxiety. They have the ability to help you through that.

It’s could just be to screen for scary stuff and confirm it’s nothing to worry about. If so, they then have the opportunity to work through this with you and find a solution.

I think it's natural to feel anxious under these circumstances. Hyperthyroidism will make you more so.

I don't have experience of this type of scan but I've had loads of mri.

I hope your results are good

Hi Welcome to the health anxiety where those of us with health conditions live our daily lives.

As long as you have the health conditions the anxiety never goes away...

also an annoying part of getting old and things stopping working.

Don’t worry too much. That can affect your health all by itself. You are in good hands and if there’s something not right, they will deal with it

Sorry you’re having a shit time - the investigation phase is often like that. Completely normal to feel anxious in your circumstances so don’t take it to heart - would be more concerning if you didn’t care at all…!

Sounds like you’re on a 2-week-wait pathway so it should get you an answer quickly then you can crack on with treatment but, as someone else has said, short term anxiety is treatable so ask.

Look after yourself x

Thanks to all who offered support I know its not easy too not worry,it's a trait of mine sadly and the symptoms that Dr is working with (long term diarrhea, raised inflammatorymarkers)point to something concerning

I think anyone would worry under the circumstances.

Hoping for good results

So not officially had results from scan via GP yet but was in Rheumatology today for follow up for Polymyalgia rheumatica, inflammation in joints said I had ct scan last week and he could see the report(thankfully no redflags for cancer) but it flagged up inflammation in bowel, which is mostly where the inflammation for PMR can from, still 'defecating though eye of a needle" as the saying goes

This is very real.

WAIT is a four letter word, as as the Stroke campaign states, time is of the essence. waiting gives a lot of conditions time to cause more damage.

It's the not knowing and not getting treatment that adds emotional trauma to the comorbidity list, which in turn adds more stress to the human body.

Knowledge truly is power.

Re the colonoscopy. I'v had one and the gas and air did its magic. No cancer found, just a few pot holes and some farmers.

See the Picolax thread returns for the pre exam medication. You will probably be given moviprep, to clear out your pipes.
