So I’ve always done the at home tests regularly for my own peace of mind but I was wondering if anyone knows if you can request the full Shabang of tests/results at your local sexual health clinic even though you are presenting NO symptoms at your own request? Or do you need to have a symptom for them to allow that?

We have always been tested for all when going to our local centre... with the exception of i believe herpes.

We always insist on oral swabs too and rectal.. despite not doing anal...as was told on more than one occasion that a woman can get stuff rectally without having to do anal sex

I had to beg my GP and they reluctantly agreed to one, but not the others that i wanted, so now I just do the on line testing - I don't wanna fight over my health everytime

Every private and public clinic and home test is different in my experience.

Standard testing home and clinic- HIV, gonorrhoea, syphilis, chlamydia, Hep B. blood, penile and vaginal.

Public clinic on swinger notification and request:- as above plus visual check ( for warts, lice, scabies) plus internal vaginal check, oral, and anal swabs, HEP B vaccine, Prep and Pep offered, Monkey pox and Trichomoniasis

Private clinic- As above plus public clinic and Herpes blood tests. HPV, Mycoplasma genitalium, Ureaplasma, Gardnerella, Shigella, Molluscum contagiosum, chancroid, lymphogranuloma venereum (LGV), donovanosis, bacterial infections, thrush, Bacterial vaginosis, UTIs.

The amount of fishy vaginas I've smelt in swingers clubs. Lol!

We are a high-risk group, sometimes higher than proz but not higher than porn stars. There is no getting around that.

You accept the risk because most people have zero symptoms and you manage the risk.

Reading the London stats one is sobering. Highest rate amongst my ethnic group- Black Caribbean aka BBC greedy girl bareback gangbangs. Lol!

In my group of regular partners, which does not have a BBC in it-we've had 2 infections in 2.5 years, but not all the partners received transmission.

I notify all my partners of any positive results in the group, and we all share testing results from home tests or clinics.

I think the general public health consensus is that if there isn't an epidemic and it's not life-threatening or disabling/life-limiting, they won't bother testing for it which is why the homes tests do not over every thing and why public clinics won't test unless you have symptoms, speficially tell them you are a swinger and demand that they test you for extra with extra anal and oral swabs

I mean, Bonnie Blue didn't realise that you can get Chlamydia in the eye from cum in the eye and she had 1000 partners from all over the UK of all different ages and ethnicities.

At this point, she might be patient zero and a super spreader. Lol! Remember, she went to all the freshers' weeks. Nice young unsuspecting and horny AF hard cock.

I just go to the clinic mainly and do a bit of online...because after a Mirena/IUS failed painful implantation and ph imbalances, I don't let GPs do my gynaecology. Not to mention they've done nothing about my perimenopausal symptoms.

Nope, not letting them near my Hoo Ha. The sexual health clinic do my smears also and I give them permission to send it to my GP. Plus the clinic tells me which lube and vag cream to use if things are dry and or irritated..yeah getting old.

I already fight with the GP over my mental health and hormones and insomnia and musculoskeletal issues. Don't need it for sex and gynae too.

Your GP declined because is is not their job unless you actually think you have an infection. For routine screening you go to the sexual health clinic, thats what they are there for.

Did you have symptoms or did you just want screening?

GP surgeries don't do routine screening they are for treating you if you think you have caught something. Routine screening is done by the sexual health clinic. I can’t say it any more simple than that.

mine wont see you for anything like that. They just refer you to the clinic. Regardless of symptoms or not.

I once had a positive test via a postal kit (notified on a Thursday).

I contacted local clinic straight away and was put on the list for a telephone appointment.

Saturday I contacted 111 who passed on my details to the out of hours GP. After an extremely long wait they refused help and said to keep waiting for the clinic.

Bearing in mind all I needed at this point was a prescription.

This comes 6 months after a GP at my surgery said to me in a very judgemental tone "may I ask why you get tested", after I went with unexplained pain/bleeding after sex and said my STI screening was up to date.

They insisted on more swabs which I agreed too (all negative).

Is it any wonder I now pay to go privately for STI testing???

The fact is the NHS provides a separate service for sexual health so it is not really in the general practice remit. It is similar to going to the gp when you have a dental issue. It is not their job so they send you to a dentist. Sexual health is not their job so they send you to the SH/GUM clinic.

The sexual health clinic here is commissioned by local county council, before my experience cutbacks had meant the postal provider changed from SH (uk or 24 I can't recall) and offered less tests after less screening questions, so I was already feeling that potentially didn't meet my needs before experiencing the awful standard of care from local clinic.

Private testing is much more comprehensive, reliable and judgement free

Hence now why I warn people that while the fast and free (negative result) STI kits may be great, watch out if you actually need help afterwards!

It is worth pointing out that while your posts on this thread are informative, they are not necessarily facts! They are your opinions based on information you have read or been given and/or services you have experienced. The facts are... not every NHS Trust in the UK is able to adhere to central NHS policy. This is for a multitude of reasons, but primarily because not every NHS Trust receives the same amount of funding. So SOME GP practices DO still provide their patients with sexual health testing. Just as, SOME GP practices DO also still assess a patient with dental issues!

ive got to say after we were contacted by someone who had tested positive.. we were seen very quickly by our local clinic who actually gave us the medication and did pretty much all the tests...

In derby we are lucky that the walk in clinic is exceptionally good ... as is the clinic in Chesterfield... whilst ours turned out to be a false alarm for us

.. it was all dealt with very quickly and professionally.

This is what I was thinking. I'm lucky I live in London. I'm spoilt for choice within a 1 hour radius of my home. Now more rural populations?

There are 40 public sexual health clinics within a 10 miles radius of my home. Private adds extra and multiple online testing sites that deliver next day to London. Not to mention next-day delivery of prescription medication.

Compared to Lands End, there's only 1 within a 10 mile radius. Next one is over 20 miles away.

Funding is only for certain populations sadly.

Our nearest SH clinic is just under 20 miles away (but northern miles so less than half an hour.

Unless you have symptoms all they offer is a “sit and wait” appointment in Mondays - not great if you have work and need an appointment!

And they don’t commission the postal kits.

Private postal testing it is then…..

I use the postal kits as trying to get an appointment at the clinic is near on impossible. My GP surgery do not do testing. Trying to get a postal kit is becoming a battle now too. It's frustrating that the postal kits don't include throat swabs. I paid £110 for a full kit.

Yes, any half decent clinic will run the tests and a lot of things remain without symptoms.

The home one are only as good as the person doing them, fine if you know what you are doing but you would believe the amount of times I heard people say they do this and that, plus some people will be doing the home tests in such a way to give a clean result.

They are perfectly fine for you own piece of mind but you really can't beat a full service at the clinic. Go on treat your self, lol

Despite always "playing safe", we had a bit of a scare a few months back in a club.

We tried the postal kits, but only half the results came back. We then booked an apt at the local clinic, Mrs got a throat swab along with blood and urine tests after explaining what had happened, Mr got the usual "safe set" of tests. We found the service to be great and surprisingly unjudgemental despite us being honest about what we get upto, and thankfully we are both OK!

Even when I was married and monogamous, I still had run-ins with PH imbalance and UTIs! I had a UTI on my honeymoon..Lol! In the middle of nowhere...Luckily, they had a doctor who gave me antibiotics.

Yes infections can go back and forth between husband and wife who are only with each other.

I was told by a SH/GUM nurse nearly 20 years ago that that was all because of SH/GUM. their wait times were so bad with some people waiting in the SH waiting room as a walk in for 6-8 hours or waiting days for an appointment, that the whole system was revamped at least once so now "no one waits more than a day to be seen". this of course ignores the fact that you have to fight for an appointment on that day. and its worse for GP appointments.

maybe that just my area. not sure if its national. i think the nurse was a bit red faced when she realised what she had told me as she had been talking about something else initially!

now, even all that seems gone. only way to get tested at NHS SH/BU clinic now is to do a postal test through them :\

People do wait days for appointments, its just that the computer record says everyone got an appointment on the same day. Doctors are hitting the target by refusing to see people.

I have sepsis, went into the doctor wanting antibiotics. I was told that there were no appointments and it was only a bit. Phone in the morning.

I went to A&E, was admitted spent 3 days in hospital, went under the knife twice. If I had gone back the following day I could have lost my arm or been dead....and still been refused an appointment.

Doctors are fixing the figures to hit their targets and people are dieing.

We tried the self test but the things included to take your blood are intended for single blood drop on a paper type tests.

We go the local walk in and have them take a sensible amount of blood with a syringe. Plus the nurse knows what she's doing.

You only get full test( including blood test) if you tick certain sexual activities .

Only allows one test every 3 months..

No symptons required .

I just go to a local clinic and say I that I am very promiscuous and have had sex with a lot of different men and they are very helpful and test me for everything. I use condoms for everything including oral, which I love and wish that I didn’t feel that I have to, but still get tested every three months if I have been sexually active. They even gave me free condoms last time, so many that I wondered if they thought that I was actually an elderly ‘working girl’ not just the amateur whore that I am!
