"Has anyone had this on the NHS yet "

According to an article in The Guardian today, it is being offered first to ‘high risk’ individuals across England who will be contacted in the coming weeks and the vaccination program rolls out from August 1st.

Manchester(ish).

Eligible patients, which includes gay and bisexual men who have a recent history of multiple sexual partners or a sexually transmitted infection (STI), will start to be offered the vaccine through local authority-commissioned sexual health services from early August.

Yes as above, if you’re not a Gay man etc then it’s a no.

Also, previous clinical studies of the efficacy of this vaccine range between 27% and 40% so it’s not a particularly effective vaccine

Yeah, they’re hoping that it will have an impact on a large scale, but individually it’s by that impressive.

I’m wondering whether you effectively have the vaccine already if you had the Hep B vaccine, or are they different enough that you need both jabs?

It'll be about individuals risk factors.

If you present at a clinic and have a high risk profile. You'll most likely be offered it.

It could include men who have sex with men, I'm assuming, who aren't gay ,- if their assessed risk is high.

The benefits of using clinics, where staff know you, are good - they can assess before people have arrived etc

It’s primarily directed at Bi and Gay men but they will assess individual cases. I’m pretty sure as a woman swinger who has casual sex with Bi men (who are also swingers) you could persuade them you should get the shot. If the argue tell them you never use condoms 🤣

It’s targeted and strategic intervention, based on available data. It’s not a ‘no’ if you’re not gay; that person has misunderstood and consequently misrepresented how individuals will be prioritised.

Hep b is a virus

Gonorrhea is a bacterial infection

Even if only 27 %effective that could significantly reduce the infection pool

I suspect if you go to the gum clinic and say you are a swinger they would consider you to have a higher risk profile

Definitely something that ALL sexually active people who have multiple partners (gay or straight) should be asking about.

There is only ONE antibiotic left that is effective against gonorrhoea - Ceftriaxone. When that fails - and it will, like all antibiotics do over time - there will be nothing left to treat it.

Gonorrhoea clears itself up, but only after 6 to 9 months. I’m sure everyone can agree that nobody who is sexually active will be abstaining from sex for that length of time, so just think of the sh*t show that scenario will present. 🤢🤮

I had the first shot of the vaccine this week at the sexual health clinic.

All very straight forward. This vaccine is being rolled out from August.

Second shot is after 4 weeks.

Two shot will offer 60% effectiveness again gonorrhoea. It is the same vaccine that is used against meningitis, so it is not a new vaccine and has been used safely for years.

I got the first dose last week, it is primarily offered to MSM (Men who have Sex with Men) but it's also available to people who have multiple partners, enjoy group sex, attend sex parties, have partners who are MSM, or are sex workers.

The efficacy is around 40% which isn't perfect but it's still a 40% lower risk, and it specifically targets the antibiotic-resistant strains.

There are currently 4 places offering it in & around London, I don't know about elsewhere

They're different, I got the Hep B vax a couple years ago. Also the M Pox vax, and had to push surprisingly hard to get a HPV vax.

I'd be very surprised if anything that targets or prevents viruses is also effective against bacterial infections - although I'm not a scientist or anything, just a bit nerdy 🤓

HepB (virus) is unrelated to gonorrhea (bacteria) - so HeP B vacc offers no protextion against gonorrhea

27% isn’t great if people think they have protection from the illness, and therefore partake in even more risky sex. Making you more likely to get it (3 in 4 chance, if the other person has it)

People won't be given the impression that it's 100% effective - no vaccine is and STI clinic staff are fantastic at communicating, as we all know, from using them.

This vaccine is another tool to help to reduce infections as well as costs of treating them

Very true. Two shots of the vaccine give up to 60% protection. If it is widely used it will help reduce the number of infections and help with herd immunity.

Yes was also given doxypep - helps reduce syphillis after any encounter … all good to keep infections down and I’d say essential for those that play … responsible for yourself and your partners! Thanks to all the support this

It doesn’t. Symptoms might disappear temporarily but without dual therapy antibiotics it will remain active and transmissible
